The main purpose of the paper is to design and realize the information sharing system of grassland resources by using of Xilinguole Grassland as experimental unit. Firstly, it analyses the current status of information sharing of grassland resources and needs following social development in China. And then narrates the researching progress and the general situation of researching area at home and abroad.Secondly, the paper explains the overall design of information sharing system of grassland resources based on WebGIS. It includes the choice of programming mechanism and methods of the system, the spatial data characters of grassland resources, the solutions to the spatial data sharing of grassland resources, constructing the system's technical routes and overall frame.Finally, it introduces detailedly the process of constructing the information sharing system of grassland resources based on WebGIS. The process includes chiefly making certain data, standard disposing the data, establishing the database attributes and color palette, realization the function of system's modules, integrating the modules, and running the system on the Internet.By applying the knowledge of grassland science, ecology and geography with the aid of technologies which includes GIS, RS, software, database, and network, the project research is to design and realize the information sharing system of grassland resources based on WebGIS by means of Java, ASP, JavaScript programming language. The system chooses 11 primary attributes (map coordinate,latitude, longitude, elevation, vegetation type, soil type, annual average precipitation, annual average temperature, accumuted temperature 0°C above, biomass, and local district) to characterize the grassland ecosystem, meanwhile, overlays 9 images with the displayed vegetation type and administration boundary images to constuct multi-dimensional virtual spaces of grassland resources. Its function includes image display, image overlay, magnify and diminish, from image to attributes composite inquiry, unilateral and multilateral from attribute to image inquiry, browse the attributes database of IEI format images and statistic inquiry area etc.The system running on the Internet shows it has many advantages such as running rapidly, operating friendly, good stability, applied for kinds of OS(operating system), lots of functional modules. Consequently, a sharing platform will be provided for grassland industry by the system which can be inquired conveniently and analized concisely, and then realize the real information sharing of grassland resources. Meanwhile, it will be most significant for China to construct the digital grassland.
