With the development of the science, the requirement of back coming nature and health are increased. The production of Chinese traditional medicine are learned and are focused, because its character is the combination of humane and nature, which catch up the fashion of people facing the future and going after the health consumption. Magnolia officinalis is one of special trees of China, and is one of four medical materials managed by government, and is one of the second important defensive wild species. People are paying more and more attention to Magnolia officinalis, which has intensive medical effect, especially in defending virus, tumor, caries and bacterium. Presently, Magnolia officinalis is the important species in exporting except processing into many kinds of patent medicines, which are more than 200 kinds in medicine industry in China.At present, there are strict quality standard of traditional medicine and herbal medicine in many countries, including inspecting the microorganism pollution, the pesticide remaining and the heavy metal pollution. In some countries, the food standard is applied in inspecting the pesticide remaining quantity in herbal plants and the strict standard is established for some heavy metals, such as Hg and arsenic. The international trade of Chinese traditional medicine is not optimized, and the key issue is the poor quality standard in China, besides the cultural difference, the competition of herbal medicine in abroad and the influence of conservative technology policy in other countries. Establishing our own standard and extending it to the world is our key job.The samples in the experiment are collected from Zhejiang, Sichuan, the western of Hunan and Dao county in Hunan. The contents of Cd, Cu and Pb are measured by Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and the contents of As and Hg are measured by two channel atomic formula. The RSD of Cd, Cu and Pb are less than 1%, and the RSD of As and Hg are 0.85% and 1.51% respectively. The average recycling ratio of Cu, Cd, Pb, As, and Hg are 96.2%, 93.1%, 91.6%, 97.17%, and 95.98% respectively.The result of the experiment shows that there are some Cd, Cu, Pb, As and Hg in Magnolia officinalis material from each area, and the contents are up to the standard of the heavy metal content in food and plant production. The diversity of the heavy metal contents in different areas are notable, and all of the heavy metals from Sichuang are the lowest, which show the best advantage.
