Objective:To do clinical research on the metabolic syndrome(MS) in-patients of Sichuan Province, investigate its the syndrome distribution and provide scientific evidence for the diagnosis and treatment based on syndrome differentiation as well as the clinical pathway of MS.Methods:By collecting and analyzing the data of demography, previous history, family history, anthropometry, physical indicators, chemical inspection and the four examinations of TCM, ascertain the syndrome and then draw the conclusion.Results:The541included cases had more women than men, whose average age was61.68±13.207years. The cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome accounted for37.15%, Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome for19.22%, blood stasis and blockage for9.80%, phlegm and fire hyperactivity syndrome for8.13%, exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome for6.65%, fire due to Yin deficiency syndrome for6.47%, Yin deficiency of liver and kidney syndrome for3.14%, Yin-Yang deficiency syndrome for2.96%, phlegm accumulating with stagnant blood syndrome for2.59%, and other syndromes for3.88%. From the aspect of age, exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome dominated in the20-40years old group, the cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome and Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome dominated the41-65years old group, while the ones of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome, Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome and blood stasis and blockage syndrome dominated the group that age was over65.When21≤BMI<24and BMI≥35, the syndrome distribution was irregular. When24≤BMI<28, the cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome and Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome dominated.When28≤BMI<35, the cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome was the main type. The cases of phlegm dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome accounted for81.58%in the ones without previous history. When MS associated with diabetes, the cases of Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome accounted for30.42%, phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome for28.93%, blood stasis and blockage syndrome for15.96%, other syndrome proportion was little. When MS associated with hypertension, the cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome accounted for25.54%, phlegm and fire hyperactivity syndrome for23.02%, exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome for19.42%and other syndrome proportion was little. When MS associated with dyslipidemia, the cases of phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome accounted for42.57%, phlegm accumulating with stagnant blood syndrome for15.84%, Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome for12.87%, blood stasis and blockage syndrome for10.89%and other syndrome proportion was also little. Conclusion:For the MS in-patients in Sichuan Province, overall, phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome was a major syndrome, followed by Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome, blood stasis and blockage syndrome, phlegm and fire hyperactivity syndrome, exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome. With the increase of age, the type of TCM syndrome changed from exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome to phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome or Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome, then to blood stasis and blockage syndrome or Yin deficiency of liver and kidney syndrome or phlegm and fire hyperactivity syndrome, at last, to yin-yang deficiency syndrome. Phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome, as the original syndrome, may exist throughout the development of MS. When MS associated with diabetes, the main syndrome included Qi and Yin deficiency syndrome and phlegm-dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome. When MS associated with hypertension, the main syndrome included phlegm dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome, phlegm and fire hyperactivity syndrome and exuberance of heart and liver fire syndrome. When MS associated with dyslipidemia, phlegm dampness with spleen deficiency syndrome often dominated.
