Euscaphisfukienensis Hsu.is mainly distributed in Fujian. Due to its great ornamental value, Euscaphis fukienensis Hsu. has always been planted as landscape plants in large area. As a result, the resource of this plant is very rich. Athough not recorded in Chinese Pharmacopoeia, this plant owns extensive medicinal uses, such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, cell proliferation, anti-hepaticfibrosis, antioxidation and so on. For a long time, clinical studies have shown that this plant has certain curative effect in the treatment of puerperal fever, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis.10kg of the dried fruits of Euscaphis fukienensis Hsu. were extracted three times by70%ethanol.The homogenate was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated to dryness under vacuum at45℃.Exacted by CH2Cl2, EtOAc, n-BuOH, ethanol and water, five parts were got. From these five parts, twelve compounds were isolated by Sephadex LH-20, C18, silica gel column chromatographies and so on. Their structures were identified by NMR data, mass spectrometric and by the comparison with literature data, including ursolic acid, pomolic acid, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, quercetin-3-O-glycosidase, isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside, muconic acid, β-sitosterol, daucostrol,2-methyl-5,7-dihydroxychrom one.The70%ethanol extract from fruits of Euscaphis fukienensis Hsu. possessed stronger antioxidant activity than vitamin C in the low concentrations(c<550ug/ml) by P-Carotene-linoleic acid bleaching. By DPPH free Radical Scavenging, it suggested that the exact had lower antioxidant activity than quercetin in the low concentrations(50ug/ml,100ug/ml). However there was no difference in the high concentrations(500ug/ml). ByNitric oxide radical scavenging,it suggested that the extract from fruits of Euscaphis fukienensis Hsu. possessed nitric oxide radical scavenging capacity.By rapid screening of antioxidant compounds by TLC method, gallic acid, isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside and isoquercitrin were proved to possess strongantioxidantactivities.
