Since our country began carrying out "Soil Test and Recommended Fertilization (STRF)" project in 2005,various regions entered the project in batches by county, zone or city and finished specified task. Each completed unit produced massive data during carrying out projects, including fertilization zone map, soil fertility class map, various nutrient maps.But now the data of STRF's result is still stored or applied by paper or data files, which goes against its management and sharing.The introduction of STRF's result is often implemented by technical training, technology consulting or sending STRF card to peasants.But these methods exist some shortcomings,including low efficiency, simplistic information and high cost,which limite the STRF's function.Meanwhile, spatial database technology, modern geographical information system techniques, Global Positioning System, Embeded Technology and mobile infonnation network have made a substantial development,which creates mobile GIS.Technique's progress laid the foundation for studying the problems that are faced with STRF project.Thinking of the fact of the project, the "recommended fertilization system based on Mobile GIS" was developed, during which the secondary platform of "ArcGIS Mobile" developed by ESRI was adopted. This system can solve the the problems that were faced with STRF project preliminarily and has already satisfied practical need basically in function,performance, usability and security.Main research works were carried out as follows:(1)The organization of the data of STRF's result is discussed. Then the result spatial database which is based on Oracle and ArcSDE was constructed, and we achieved the effective management of the STRF's result, which was convenient for data update and sharing.(2) Aiming at the characteristics that the system terminal equipment are low in compute and memory capability,small in screen size, low in bandwidth and often works in field,we make design for the map's color,mark and scale in detail.(3)We published spatial data service with ArcGIS Server, and discussed the management method of spatial data service with ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Manager.(4)We constructed fertilization Model parameters and Knowledge Database, and developed function module for its query and modification.Users can query and modify fertilization Model parameters and Knowledge Database with terminal software. (5)We developed a suit of recommended fertilization mobile terminal software which was based on ArcGIS Mobile in Visual Sudito 2005.It has already satisfied practical need basically in functions, performance, usability and security.
