Celastrus angulatus Maxim. is a perennial woody vine plant of Celastraceae, Celastrus L. Also known as Evonymus fortunei Eand.-mazz, Ilex serrata Thunb, et, al. Celastrus angulatus has a long history of prevention and treatment of diseases and pests in China, the root bark can prevent and control the pests and diseases on Chinese cabbage, radish, and harmless to humans,animals and natural enemies. It is rich of natural resources of Celastrus angulatus. It is widely distributed of Yellow River, Yangtze River, river valley hills and mountains in China. A series ofβ-dihydroagarofuran polyol esters were isolated from Celastrus angulatus. They are the effective insecticidal ingredients. It has the anesthesia, antifeedant and toxic effect on the pests. Besides of this, it was isolated from Celastrus angulatus that including triterpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids and the other compounds, and it has biological activity with the anti-tumor, etc. In order to fully utilize the plant resources in China, to further development the insecticidal effects of Celastrus angulatus, and to find the chemical constituents of Celastrus angulatus, we have maken a systematic study of the root bark of Celastrus angulatus.In this paper, benzene was solvent extraction to Celastrus angulatus. The extracts were further divided into two parts after extraction, then crossed the atmospheric pressure chromatography column, with petroleum ether-ethyl acetate as eluant. After the thin-layer examination, they were prepared by preparative high performance liquid. We isolated eleven compounds asβ-dihydroagarofuran polyol esters from it, also as two triterpenoids and a macrocyclic alkaloids, total of 10 known compounds, and three new compounds. By means of general chemistry and advanced spectroscopy techniques(Including 1HNMR,13CNMR,1H-1HCOSY, NOESY, HSQC, HMBC). The new compounds:angulinA (1β,2β-diacetoxy-8β,15β-diisobutanoyloxy-9β-benzoyloxy-4α,6α-dihydroxy-β-dihydroagarofuran),angulinE(1β,2β-diacetoxy-4α,6α-dihydroxy-8α-isobutanoyloxy-9β-benzoyloxy-15β-(3-methl)butanoyloxy-β-dihyd roagarofuran),angulinH(1β,2β,15β-triacetoxy-4α,6α-dihydroxy-8α-isobutanoyloxy-9β -butanoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran),angulinG(1β,2β,6α,15β-tetriacetoxy-4a-hydroxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9a-furoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran),F 193(1 P,2β-diacetoxy-4α,6α-dihydroxy-8β-furoyloxy-9a-benzoyloxy-15β-isobutanoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran),a ngulinC(1β,2β,6α,15-tetriacetoxy-4a-hydroxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9a-furoyloxy-β-dih ydroagarofuran),angulinJ(1β,2β,6α,15P-tetriacetoxy-4a-hydroxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9a-furoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran),G20(3β-hydroxyolean-9(11),12-diene),G39(β-Sit osterol), G155(1β,2β,6α,15β-tetriacetoxy-8β,9α-dibenzoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran); the new compounds:G60 (1β,6α,15β-triacetoxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9a-benzoyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran), G130 (1β,2β,6α,15β-tetriacetoxy-8β-isobutanoyloxy-9a-benz oyloxy-β-dihydroagarofuran), G337 (Chinese Bittersweet AlkaloidⅣ) (1β,6α,8β,9β-tetriacetoxy-2β,4α-dihy-droxy-15β-isobutanoyloxy-(3,12)-[2'-(7',8'-dymethl)propion-yloxy-3'-methoxy-pyridineyl]-β-dihydroagarofuran). And several compounds were analyzed with their NMR datas.
