| As the results of excessive utilization of chemical fertilizer in vegetable products, soil nutrients became unbalance, product quality became poor and environment was polluted. In the present study, effects of vermicompost on yield and nutrient quality of cabbage and radish were investigated under conditions without chemical fertilizer utilization. The main results as follows:1. The effects of cow manure vermicompost on plant growth, metabolite contents and antioxidant activities of Chinese cabbage were investigated by pot cultures. Five treatments were designed by mixing vermicompost and soil in proportions of 0:1, 1:2, 1:1, 2:1, 1:0 (v/v). Marketable weight of Chinese cabbage significantly increased upon the proportion of vermicompost and soil in the treatment of 0:1, 1:2, 1:1, 2:1, while plants grown in full vermicompost treatment (1:0) showed lower marketable weight than other vermicompost treatments and but higher than the full soil treatment (0:1). Vermicompost application significantly increased the nutrient content of Chinese cabbage leaves, especially in the 2:1 treatment, in which the contents of soluble sugar, soluble protein, vitamin C, total phenolics and total flavonoids were enhanced by 62%, 18%, 200%, 25% and 17% compared to the full soil treatment respectively. The antioxidant activities expressed by DPPH scavenging activity, hydroxyl (·OH) scavenging activity and Fe2+-chelating activity were increased by 92%, 40% and 36% in the 2:1 treatment than 0:1 the treatment respectively. Vermicompost application induced significantly accumulation of 16 essential amino acids; the total amino acid content was the greatest in the 2:1 treatment, where it was increased 90% compared to the full soil treatment.2 The effects of vermicompost on growth, nutritional quality and antioxidant activity of cherry radish were investigated by the pot experiment. The results showed that adding vermicompost in the soil could significantly promote the growth of cherry radish root, and increased distribution of substance from shoots to roots. With the increase of vermicompost incorporation, soluble sugar, soluble protein, free amino acids and antioxidant flavonoids, phenolics and vitamin C were significantly increased; also characterized antioxidant capacity on behalf of the radical scavenging ability, hydroxyl radical scavenging activity and Fe2 + chelating increased in varying degrees. But radish cultivated with treatment of 1:2 and 0:1 has no significant difference, these results showed that the increasing of vermicompost in a certain range improved the yield, the quality of cherry radish. |
