13 quantitative traits of 24 cultivars of dahlia were investigated. Earlyblooming stage,full blooming stage, fade stage and florescence of single flower and entire plant flowering were recorded in growth period,10 flowers were selected to measure the flower diameter, the number of flower petals,the ratio of petal length and width of outer and inner series(10 petales per flower) and survey the flower-type and the patal-type of outer and inner series. Genetic stability was determined based on the consistency analysis of 13 traits within cultivars, and the richness of genetic resources was explored based on the differences between varieties, the charicter repeat force size of dividuals and clone inside were discussed based on the analysis of character repeat force, the exploration of whole genetic correlation of the traits provided referent base for the options of garden plants and relevant traits during the process of breeding.In addition,15 cultivars of nationally and internationally dahlia which with different colours were elected to assay the composition and content of anthocyanins and flavonols of dahlia by HPLC based on colormeter analysis,analys the relation between colour and pigment, explor the mechanism of petal color of dahlia to provide theoretical base for color breeding of dahlia.The main results were as following:It showed intraspecific stabilized in majority traits while there are significant variations in flowering stage and the number of flower petals, but with abundant inters pecific variations, they are valuable material for breeding, also have comprehensive research value.Flower diameter repeatability was the largest in analysis of intraindividual heritability, but early blooming stage, full blooming stage of single flower and entire plant flowering were slower.Nevertheless, they had genetic stability within clone.It showed that they could be research norms for classification of cultivers.There was high positive correlation between florescence of single flower and entire plant flowering in intraindividual correlation analysis, midding positive correlation for the number of flower petals to the ratio of petal length and width of outer series and florescence of single flower; the ratio of petal length and width of outer series to the ratio of petal length and width of inner series, flower-type and patal-type of outer series; patal-type of outer series to patal-type of inner series; patal-type of outer series to florescence of single flower and entire plant flowering.There were low correlation for early blooming stage of single flower to florescence of single flower, flower-type and patal-type.However, there is negtive correlation between the ratio of petal length and width of inner series and full blooming stage of single flower.Flower diameter was basically independent inheritance.Firstly,it showed that 24 cultivars of dahlia can be divided into 3 major categories based on 13 traits according to clustering analysis:the first category including 16 cultivars,such as 'Hong Bo Tao'etc;the second category including 2 cultivars,'Long Shang Xiong Ying'and'San Cai';the last category including 6 cultivars,such as'Yuan Ban Hong'etc.Secondly, clustering analysis result of 13 traits shows that can be divided into 3 major categories:the first category including flower diameter,color, the ratio of petal length and width of outer and inner series;the second category including florescence, flower-type full blooming stage of single flower, patal-type of outer and inner series;the third category including early blooming stage and fade stage of single flower, the number of flower petals and entire plant flowering.Color norm was measured by colormeter, which for classify of flower color much more accurite.12 kinds of anthocyanins were measured by HPLC, the results showed that there were 3 kinds based anthocyanins, there was almost no anthocynin of dahlia which color is light yellow or is close to white, but all the materials had flavonols.The kind and content in different color of petals had highly distinction.The color of petals was connected with the kind and content of anthocyanins and flavonols,red flowers was related to the compsition and content of anthocyanins and flavonols,but closely connected with anthocyanins,while white flowers was only relevant to flavonols.
