| More attention was paid to the environmental problems with the rapid developing of economic and the increasing of all kinds of pollutions. Most large cities tried to construct Garden City and Ecological City in China. Zhangjiajie is a world-famous tour city and the location of World Natural Heritage and World Geological Park. Many people were attracted to Zhangjiajie for its beautiful scenery. Zhangjiajie would be constructed to be Provincial Garden City before the year of 2008 and National Garden City in the next 14 years in the long-term planning of the government of Zhangjiajie. The Roads were the main transportation room, the embodiment of city landscape and the important symbol of city civilization. The road green space is an important component of city greenbelt and the image of city beautification. The plant landscape of urban road is an important part of the urban landscape. The plant play an important role on beautifying urban environment, improving ecological environment and reducing pollution. So it was important in theory and in practice for the study of plant landscape in the urban road greenbelt system in Zhangjiajie city.The kinds, origin, amount, growth and configure of plants in the Zhangjiajie urban road greenbelt system were investigated by spot check and one by one investigation. The urban road greenbelt systems were located in the road and traffic island. Following problems of plant landscape in the Zhangjiajie urban road greenbelt were put out. The kinds of plant were less; the ordinary green plants were too many; most plant landscapes were almost the same and had no characteristic; the maintenance for the greenbelt were very low; the destruction was very heavy; the landscape should be designed by sustainable theory and people-oriented principle. Several advices were put forward on the base of characters and planning of Zhangjiajie city. The plant landscape should be designed according to human requirement. The road greenbelt should be more various. The plant landscape should have the local character and city culture. The plant landscape should be harmonious with other landscape. The law system, regulations and monitoring system should be perfected. Many kinds of plant landscapes were designed for the road in the Zhangjiajie city. Sidewalk greenbelt should mainly depend on the arbor, considering the shrub and ground cover plant, to form plant communities and to embody the plant diversities and seasonal phenomena plant landscape.The plant landscapes of dividing green stripe and traffic island should mainly depend on the shrub and ground cover plant, which would be planted orderly and had more arrangements. The square green area and street corner green space should consider more kinds of plants to create the relaxing, leisure, entertainment atmosphere.
