Semanotus bifasiatus (Matsch) is one of the serious stem borers on Platycladus orientalis(Linn). In this thesis, biological characters of Semanotus bifasiatus is studied. Two methods including steam distillation and Soxhlet extraction to exract volatile from Platycladus orientalis are introduced. The attractive activity of two kinds of extracts and scraps of P. orientalis is researched by biological determination. The results are following:1. Biological characters of Semanotus bifasiatus Semanotus bifasiatus reproduces one generation each year and overwinters as adult. The most suitable temperature for adult to come out is from 15~20℃, the peak period is from 10th Mar. to 22nd Mar., female's is later than male's for two or three days. The sex ratio is 1:1.12. The adult begin to lay eggs 2~3 days after copulation without nutritious complement. 9~137 eggs can be laid by each female, the mean is 72.54±22.13.2.Text of the extraction The yield of the tow methods steam distillation and Soxhlet extraction for 0.143 % and 2.410 %, the latter is greater than the former.3. Extract of the measuring The choose rate of the two methods(steam distillation and Soxhlet extraction) in the scraps of P. orientalis and the air flow are different by the S. bifasiatus, the data respective are 75.55%,51.11%,62.22%,38.89%. Hypothesis within 50~110cm distance from Odor source, the trend rate of the S. bifasiatus for extract the distillation of the steam steam is no significant differences.4. The Attractive activity of S. bifasiatus Their attractive activity are different as the result of the observe, respective as trapping by extract of the distillation of the steam steam and Soxhlet extraction.
