The genetic variation of the growth, form factors, and adaptive characteristics of the 23-year-old test plantation of platycladus orientalis from 42 geographical provenances are analyzed in this article. The index analyzed are the height (H), diameter at breast high (DBH), the width of tree crown (WTC), conservation rate, freezing injury. A comprehensive analysis on seed characteristics, geographic variation and differences in the growth of different ages,the conclusions as following:1.It can be seen from the conservation rate that Qufu, Dengfeng,Yuanshan are most, which is over 90%, especially licheng, its conservation rate is 100%. Miyun, Huolu Wenshan, are lower, which are 25%, 29%, 34%, respectively. Thus, the provinces of Licheng, Dengfeng, Qufu,Yuanshan are best.2.It can be seen from the growth indexes that the H and DBH among provinces have a significant differences. The result showed that he provinces of Licheng, Feicheng, Weishan showed better in H, while the provinces of Jincheng in Shanxi, Weishan, Zaozhuang present better in DBH, which are all on the standard of significant(5%). The H of best province is bigger than the average and the smallest 25%, 81.2%, respectively. The DBH of best province is bigger than the average and the smallest 28.5%, 97.78%, respectively. The provinces of Licheng, Feicheng, Weishan, Zaozhuang are suitable in Bao du gu forest area, and Lingyuan in Liaoning, Xichang in Sichuan are the poorest provinces, which can be seen from the multiple comparison (table 5). There is significant difference between the best province and the poorest provinces, while the middle provinces still take the most part, and there are no differences among them.3.The cone and the seed present uniformly. The F test among the cones is significant. The F value in the rate of seed weight to cones is 12.648, and the P value is smaller than 0.0001. the total seed weight present significant differences. The total seed weight of Weishan, Yixian, and Yuanshan is 0.188g, 0.1747g, 0.1638g, which are the most weight provinces. It can be seen from the cluster analysis for all indexes of cones that Lingyuan, Queshan, Lingbao, Lingyan, Changzhi present better, 4.By contrasting these indexes of the test plantation at 23-year-old age with that at 7-year old age test plantation, the variation scale changed with the age of these provenances. Weishan, Queshan, Lingyan show better in H among -7-year old age test plantation, and the H of them is 2.37m, 2.3m, 2.24m, respectively. Licheng, Feicheng, and Weishan present better and Jinmen, Shilou following in 23-year-old age test plantation.Queshan, Feicheng, Weishan show better in DBH among -7-year old age test plantation, and the DBH of them is 4.31cm, 4.1cm, 4.01cm, respectively. Weishan, Zaozhuang, and Taian present better and the value is 13.06cm, 12.41cm, and 12.28cm, respectively.5.The heritability of H, DBH, and volume of 23-year-old age test plantation is 0.56866, 0.5562, and 0.6 respectively. There is no difference among H, DBH, and volume. The inherited parameter of H and DBH is 7.75 and 8.514, while the inherited parameter of volume is 18.975. The variation coefficient of phenotype is bigger than that of genetic and environment. The phenotype genetic is 32.866.6.There is a positive correlation between longitude and H, DBH, crown height, volume. The difference of correlation coefficient between all indexes and longitude is not significant, while the difference of correlation coefficient among H, DBH, and volume is significant. There is negative correlation between latitude and all indexes, and the difference of correlation coefficient between all indexes and latitude is not significant. The difference of correlation coefficient of all indexes is significant especially crown.7.For the purpose of combining timber production and resistance application, the height, ground diameter, crown width, stem straightness, crown density, survival ratio, and the degree of frozen injury were used as selection indexes. Using expert survey to get relative weight coefficient of each factor, and define each target weight coefficient. provenance provenance score more than average (0.607875) 1 standard deviation (0.15142) as a good seed source selection criteria. it resulted that the comprehensive score of Licheng, Weishan were much higher than the average, whose timber growth and adoption were outstanding, which is the best provinces in Zaozhuang.
