Two feeding experiments were conducted in this research. 1260 xueshan hens (12 weeks) were divided into five groups with three replicates for each to examine the performance and economic benefit in floor feeding in experiment one .The energy were 12.85 MJ/kg and the protein level were 13.11%, 14.10%, 15.09%, 16.08%, 17.07% in all ration ,respectively. In experiment two, 67 Xueshan hens were divided into 5 groups to examine the results of experiment one in cage rearing .The ration were the same as experiment one. the appearance trait, slaughter character and some biochemical index in blood were measured, together with economic benefit to find out the proper protein level in finished phase ration of Xuesan hens. And provide reference for feed formulation. The results of two experiments showed:1 .Growth performance: The daily gain were lightest when the protein level were lowest, the body weight and daily gain were no better than other groups when the protein level were 17.07%,which was the highest protein content of diets in both experiments. The performance were best of 14.10% group when in floor feeding and of 16. 08% group when in caging rearing, the differences of body weight, daily gain were at significant level(P<0.05) compare to the lowest protein level group in the beginning phase.2. Feed gain ratio: The results in both experiments showed that there were no differences(P>0.05) in feed gain ratio of each protein level. The results were similar in the two feeding pattern, except the highest protein level group, the feed gain ratio were decreased with the protein level increased; the total feed gain ratio were increased with the age of the Xueshan hens3. Protein efficiency: In the experiments we found that the protein efficiency were reduced with the protein level of ration were increased; the protein efficiency were lower with the age of the hens increased, the protein efficiency were higher in caging rearing compare to floor feeding.
