At present, the researches on cutting technology for low-thin crops such as rice, wheat and pasturage tend to be mature and perfect in China, and also extensive probing of cutting technology of economic crops such as sugarcane and succulence has been carried out and some progress has been achieved. But the researches on cutting technology of tall-thicker crops such as Arundo Donaxl. and bulrush has been fallen behind, especially the theoretical research for the cutting of Arundo Donaxl is almost blank. As a kind of good material for paper manufacturing and being environmental friendly especially for salina soil, Arundo donaxl planting has good economic, environmental and social benefits, so it is planted in large-scale in many provinces such as zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong, Guangxi, and the planting acreage is more than 10,000,000 acres. Presently, the main harvesting of Arundo donaxl is traditional manual ways, the working conditions are bad, the harvesting efficiency is low and the cost is high. To harvest Arundo donaxl on schedule and maintaining the quality and quantity is key to ensure the bumper harvest and yield, the cropper's income and the timely supply as industrial material, the mechanization harvest has been urgent for the industrialization of Arundo donaxl planting and timely harvest. The theoretical study and the production practice had indicated that the key to realize the mechanization harvesting of tall-thicker crops is the cutting technology. So this research aimed to develop a Arundo donaxl-cutting test system based on high-speed photography for cutting test research on Arundo donaxl and other tall-thicker and harder crops, with the purpose to supply valid methods and ways to the academic research on the cutter of that kind of crops.Based on analyzing and comparing the characteristics of the present cutters, the material characteristics of Arundo Donaxl has tested and analyzed in this paper, and investigated a rotating chain-type saw-tooth cutter for stalks of tall-thick and harder crops , and developed a cutting test system including the rotating chain-type cutting tester system and transportation mechanism and the high-speed photography image collecting and processing system. Arundo Donaxl cutting test has been carried out and the cutting process of the Arundo Donaxl has been photographed on-line by the high-speed photography image collecting system. Furthermore, the factors affecting cutting qualities and efficiency and The research result included: firstly, matching of the tractor's moving velocity and the cutting velocity, the degree of tightness of the cutter chain, the height of stubble, the opening of the cutting protector and the interval between two adjoining blades, the matching of configuration parameters of blades are the main factors affecting the cutting quality and efficiency; secondly, the cutter's dynamically cutting of the arundo donaxl includes three stages: touching, cutting-in and cutting-off; thirdly, the movement tracks of stalks of Arundo Donaxl, which are cutted off has been acquired.The research results would be both theoretical and practical valuable, for providing theory support and technology guidance for the optimization design and theoretical study of the cutter for the Arundo Donaxl harvester, being important academic reference for the study of cutter for other tall-thicker crops harvester, and prompting the mechanization harvesting and industrial planting of tall-thicker crops.
