Bamboo is wide range in China and used in medicine traditionally. In order to comprehensive utilize the priority plant resource, The dynamic changes of flavonoids and other chemical components were studied in several bamboo leaves and branches. The species studied were Arundinaria argenteostriatus,Arundinaria pygmaea, Brachystachyum densiflora,Arundinaria amabilis,Indocalamus latifolius and Phyllostachys nidularia f.farcata.The bio-chemical composition of bamboo is very complex, there are protein, organic acid, saccharide, tannins, flavonoids, coumarin, amino acid ,alkaloid and saponin steroids and so on in bamboo leaves. The standard curve of flavonoids was plotted by using spectrophotometry, and the regression equation y=11.113x-0.0185 was obtained which correlation coefficient was r=0.9995. By using the one-factor experiment, it is confirmed that the most suitable condition of extract the flavonoids. It was: 30 percent ethanol, the weight of material compare with the volume of the solvent is 1 to 16, extract about 2 hours at 80 degree centigrade. The changes of flavonoids in these species as follows:In the same specie, there are more flavonoids in leaves than in branches. The old leaves may have more flavonoids than the new ones, but not always like that.Among these species, old leaves of Phyllostachys nidularia f. farcata have the most flavonoids, which is from 12.34‰ to 19.67‰. The second one is the leave of Arundinaria argenteostriatus. The lowest one is the new leaves of Brachystachyum densiflora, which is from 4.76‰ to 11.22‰. In the branches the Brachystachyum densiflora has the most flavonoids, which is from 5.96‰ to 10.6‰, and the lowest one is Indocalamus latifolius, which is from 3.02‰ to 5.47‰.The most suitable time for harvest is different for different species.August, September and November are the right time for harvest Arundinaria argenteo-striatus.June, July and November are the best time for Arundinaria pygmaea and Brachysta-chyum densiflora.April ,August and November are suit for Indocalamus latifolius.March July, August and November are suit for Arundinaria amabilis.
