Study On Several Breeding Characteristics In Putian Pig

Putian pig is not only one of 26 fine local animal breeds in Fujian Province , but also one of 36 fine Chinese local pig breeds. The pig is characteristics of good reproductive performance and meat quality, so it is one of precious genetic resources which are suitable for breeding a new pig for both domestic and overseas markets. However, only less than 10 percent of Putian pigs are in pure breeding, about 90% of Putian pigs are crossbred, such as Duroc-Putian binary hybrid, Landrace-Putian binary hybrid and Yorkshire-Putian binary hybrid. The number of purebred Putian pigs becomes less and less. The fine local breed will face to the danger of extinction, the preserving work is be imperative under the situation. By far, the system research on Putian pig still remains blank. It is hoped that the research can provide some reference materials for preserving and selecting Putian pig.In order to study the breed characteristics of Putian pig, we studied on several breed characteristics of Putian pig, including its reproductive performance, finishing performance, carcass quality, meat quality ; hybrid advantages and so on. Based on this study, using the. basic principles and measures of quantitative genetics, the hereditary law of Putian pig reproductive traits was founded and the elementary selection indexes of its reproductive traits were formulated.Results showed :1.The total number of pigs born of the first farrow Putian gilt was 10.33 ±1. 72, total number of pigs born of Putian sows was 11. 21 ± 1. 58. So we could primarily conclude that Putian Pig was a frequently-born breedo The survival litter size of the first farrow gilt was 9.75±2.01, the survival litter size of sows was 10. 31 ± 1.93;The weaning weight of litter of. the first farrow gilt at 30 days of age was 46. 52±13. 42kg , the weaning weight of litter of sows...
