The antibiotic activities and mechanism of the extracts of the root of the Stellera chamaejasme L. were tested against S.aureas, E.coli, Candida albicans, T.purpureatum, T.gypsum, M.gypsum and E.floccosum. The herbal was extracted by acetone, 95% ethanol, methyl alcohol, water, acidic water and alkaline water. The extract of the 95% ethanol was again extracted by petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and 90% methyl alcohol. The extracts were tested for the antibiotic activities by Neo-Sensitab disk-diffusion method. MIC MBC and MFC also were tested by test tube method. Using T.gypsum and S.aureas as representative fungi and bacteria species, we studied the amount of the growth, shape, growth curves, cell membrane and some enzymes activity. The results showed that the active component existed in the ethyl acetate extract(EAE) and 90% methyl alcohol extract(MAE). The maximum mean diameter of antibiotic circle of ethyl acetate extract in 33.33g/L against S.aureas is 12.02mm and against M.gypsum is 9.04mm. The maximum mean diameter of antibiotic circle of 90% methyl alcohol extract in 33.33g/L against T.purpureatum is 7.73mm. EAE inhibited the Candida albicans and E.coli, but killed the others. The MIC and MFC of T.gypsum were 0.31mg/ml. The MIC and MBC of S.aureas were 0.63mg/ml. The amount of the growth were...
