The purpose of the present study is to provide some information on standardization of the maritime raft type abalone culture for Fujian Province and nation by studying some key factors of the maritime raft type abalone cultivation. During May 2003 and June 2004, abalone culture environment monitoring was carried out in Xinghua Gulf, Pinghai Bay and Meizhou Gulf in Putian city, Fujian Province. Furthermore effects of different feed, water layer of hybridized abalone cultivation and district on spending summer were studied. In addition, effects of the abalone size and density on the growth of hybridized abalone were also involved. The results were as follows.1. Sea water in the three aquaculture area Meizhou Gulf, Xinghua Bay and Pinghai Gulf was collected stochastically and examined. And environment of abalone culture was investigated. The results suggested that the sea water quality in area of the abalone cultivation measured up to the standard "environment-friendly food and water quality of sea water cultivation" (NY5052-2001), and the criterion "safety and quality of agriculture product and environment of area of the environment-friendly aquatic products" (GB/T18407- 2001).2. Study on spending summer of southern raft type hybridized abalone aquaculture indicated that the fresh G tenuistipita in Guangdong was regarded as the most suitable, the kelps processed by salt was more and the dry kelps was inferior.3. By comparing the growth of southern raft type hybridized abalone in different water layers, spending summer was influenced obviously by the depth. The effect was evident when the water layer was beyond 3.5m. However, the water layer was too deep to operate conveniently, and the proper depth was 3-4m.4. Study on cultivation in different area showed that transferring hybridized abalone from the south to the north could increase the growth rate and survival rate. And the action could avoid the high temperature and typhoon season in south. Therefore, moving the abalone in the south to the north is a farming method of broad prospect.5. Effects of size and density on growth of abalone revealed that the most proper growth of hybridized abalone exhibit different density at different size. Thus the density should be adjusted usually during the cultivation of abalone. But the time of adjusting was not too frequent because the operation can result in injury. The appropriate time was two.
