The mature fruits of gardenia jasminoides are the Chinese traditional medicine, having the effect of iatric and sanitarian, and the fruits also contain the gardenia yellow, which are the popular crude pigment and food additive in recent years.By studied and evaluated thirty-two plants of gardenia jasminoides with twenty biological characters , combined with the contents of pharmic and pigment components, the different variance types were evaluated and seven single plants were preliminarily selected. At the same time, the cutting propagation of gardenia jasminoides was carried out to research. The study provides the material and academic foundation in order to choose and utilize the excellent single plants, as well as cultivate and breeding the superior plants.1. The method of high-performance liquid chromatography (diode array detector) under different wave length was established to detect pharmic components of different detective wavelength in gardenia jasminoides simultaneously. The same chromatogram fig can show the geniposide and chlorogenic acid with different wavelength. This method is simple with good repetition, and can be used for the quality control method of gardenia jasminoides. The better chromatography conditions were established: Elite C18(250mm× 4.6mm, 5μm) with linear gradient elution using methanol-acetotrile(9:1) and 3‰ aqueous formic acid; the dectected waves was 238nm for geniposide and 330nm for chlorogenic acid; the flow velocity was 1ml/min.2. The paper adopted the dual-step ethanol extraction in the extraction of gardenia yellow pigment. Based on the experiment and literature, the better leaching conditions were established: the leaching liquor was 600g/L ethanol aqucous solution; the ratio of gardenia to liquor was 1:10; the leaching temperature was 55℃; the leaching time was 2h; the leaching progression was dual-step.3. Tweenty biological characters of gardenia jasminoides were statistic by analysis of basic statistical, correlation , principal and clustering. The results showed that the quantity characters such as transect and vertical diameter of fruit, the weight of fruit, height of plant and crown extent had dominant function in the selection. In the process of selection, some quality characters must be considered too, such as the size and shape of the leaf, the autumn of the fruits. The yield per plant and the content of useful components were the key factors in the evaluation and selection.
