River greenization mentioned in this paper means greenization within the range of Blue line, which includes Toe Zone greenization, Splash Zone greenization and Bank & Terrance Zone greenization. For rivers with flood prevention Wall, river greenization also includes flood prevention Wall greenization. River greenization plays an important role in restoring river ecosystem, improving riparian environment and beautifying urban scenery. There are many rivers in Shanghai, but the development level of river greenization varied from each other for many reasons and affects the function of river greenization. So it is very important to evaluate the status of river greenization scientifically, point out the existent problems and present relative countermeasures for future development of river greenization in Shanghai.The paper assessed the representative river greenization based on analyzing and summarizing related researches at home and abroad, combining fieldwork with assessment model and clarifying related conception. The results were as follows:(1) The paper fully explained the meaning of river greenization and classified it into 5 different types (Old Town river greenization, New Town river greenization, Suburb river greenization, Countryside river greenization and Garden Area river greenization) according to the different sections in Shanghai.(2) The framework of assessment of river greenization was built by considering 5 aspect, including security assessment, ecological assessment, aesthetic assessment, accessibility assessment and economical assessment.(3) Because of the hierarchy characteristic of index system and the different needs among different sections of river greenization, synthetical index method, analytic hierarchy process and expert-analytic hierarchy weighting process were applied as the main methods of assessment.(4) The hierarchical structure of evaluation index and its evaluation criteria were demonstrated based on the conceptual model of assessment. Weight calculation method which fits the hierarchy of index system was chosen, and the assessment models of river greenization were formed.(5) The results of the assessment of representative river greenization in Shanghai indicate: â‘  At present, river greenization in Shanghai is not perfect because most evaluation grades of river greenization are in grade II and gradeIII. â‘¡ Different sections of river greenization have great difference in sub-object level. Old Town river greenization has better safety, but ecological effects are poor. New Town river greenization has higher aesthetic value, but economic effects are poor. Suburb river greenization does not show any obvious difference in sub-object level. Countryside river greenization has poor safety, but economic effects are good. Garden Area river greenization has high aesthetic and accessible value, but economic effects are poor. â‘¢ There also have some difference in security assessment, ecological assessment, aesthetic assessment, accessibility assessment and economical assessment among same section of river greenization.(6) After the assessment, the main problems of river greenization of different sections in Shanghai had been pointed out and relative countermeasures had been presented for reference, such as balancing the five aspect of river greenization, improving river greenization technology, perfecting the management system, etc.
