Classification of Forest site type and site quality evaluation are important means to study forest growing envirionment and environmental impact of forest type and productivity.They are very important in forestry production such as forest nursing, a long-term and deep exploration has been carried out at home and abroad.Because of the integrity and accuracy of the data of Maoershan Forest Center, in this paper,Maoershan was chosen as research object.Through the analysis of the survey data, basic on the data processing and information extraction,this paper do the qualitative and quantity analysis on the influencing factors of forest site classification such as land-type, slope aspect, elevation, slope degree to determine the predominate factors.Remote sensing (RS) technology can get surface comprehensive information rapidly by a high performance-price ratio.The geograpHic information system (GIS) is a kind of powerful tool of analyzing the directional distribution of ground-object, its function is processing,management,inquiry,analyzing,input and output the spatial data and the attribute data.This paper established the principle of classification,basis and classification system by the support of RS,GIS technology, and the data source which is based on remote sensing image contours and ubcompartment distribution map.Established thematic map of slope degree and elevation with the DEM from Contours, and established thematic map of the site condition map by the interpretation of remote sensed imagery, then make a site directional distribution map by overlay them, and gave evaluation to the result of site classification.Realized highly active forest site classification and computer automation.The evaluation of site classification and the site quality is opposite to the site performance, and it is the key of realizing scientific forestation,afforestation,and management, it also reflect the forestry scientific development level.Therefore, the forestry advanced countries in the current world attach great importance to evaluate site classification and quality by many ways and methords with more site information.The introduction of site classification and quality evaluation is very important to be clear about site conditions within certain premises,it's also very important to the increase of the forestation and management level,and play a significant role in developing potential productive of woodland forces to the full..
