Along with the spatial data introduction, the amount of data in forest resources database is increasing sharply and the application demand is getting diversed. These have brought challenge to the efficiency of the application system. It has been the key issue to adopt proper methodology and strategy for improving the system efficiency in the design.of forest resources database application system. This paper analyzed the storage and strategies of the query optimization for forest resources database based on Oracle and the ArcSDE, explored the optimization methods which are suitable for the forest resources database, compared and verified various optimization strategies taking the Fujian provincial forest resources database as an instance. The paper proposed the strategies of spatial data query optimization by taking adjustment of memory for Oracle and the parameters for ArcSDE as the main methods, and the strategies of attribute data query optimization by taking adjustment of SQL, indexes and materialized views as the main methods. For the query optimization of the statistics system of Fujian provincial 2nd level forest resources database, 6 materialized views for the 25 report tables was established. By using the materialized views, the speed for the calculation of all the report tables was greatly increased.
