Two hundred and forty crossbred early weaned PIC piglets with an average initial weight of 7.68kg, weaned at 35±2d of age, were divided into four groups to determine the effects of probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide on growth performance and mechanism.ControlⅠ(positive diet, with no probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide but more fish meal, whey powder and little soybean meal),controlⅡ(negative diet, with no probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide but less fish meal, whey powder and more soybean meal) and controlⅢandⅣsupplemented with probiotcs and xylo-oligosaccharide respectively . Diets were formulated to contain equal essential amino acids and ME and to meet PIC piglets's need. The results of these studies suggested that:Each group had no obvious effect on body weight, feed intake of piglets (P >0.05); control to negative group, addition of probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide could obviously decrease feed: gain ratio(P <0.05).On blood biochemical indicator, blood sugar (BS) and total serum protein (TSP) were improved 16.30% (P <0.05)and 3.05% (P >0.05) respectively addition of probiotics compare to negative group. But serum urea nitrogen (SUN) decreased 3.61% (P >0.05). BS and TSP of adding xylo-oligosaccharide were improved 10.48% (P >0.05) and 3.0% (P >0.05) respectively compare to negative group. SUN decreased 8.62% (P <0.05). immunoglobulin M (IgM) of probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide were obviously higher than negative group(P <0.05).On digestive enzyme activities, addition of probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide increased digestive enzyme activities in duodenum and jejunum. Tryptic activities in pancreas of positive group and probiotics were obviously higher than negative group (P <0.01). The activities of pepsase and amylase in pancreas showed the same rule.On intestinal tract morphology, adding the probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide could improve villus length on jejunum (P <0.05) but have no apparent effect on duodenum and ileum; crypt depth on duodenum and jejunum was affected by adding probiotics (P <0.05). Addition of xylo-oligosaccharide decreased crypt depth. The villus length to crypt depth ratio was higher in piglet diets supplemented with probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide than in those fed the controlⅡon duodenum and jejunum(P <0.05) , but had no apparent effect on ileum (P >0.05).On intestinal tract flora, adding the probiotics and xylo-oligosaccharide could not only improve the quantities of lactobacillus and Bacillus bifidus, but also decrease the breeding of E.Coil and Salmonella.
