During 2002~2004,standard experiments at 24 locations in Zhengzhou, Xinxiang,Jiyuan,Xuchang and others were conducted to study the mechanism and application of"Mai-jian",a new type of plant growth regulator released by Wheat Research Institute of Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences(WIHAAS).The main results were as follows:1."Mai-jian" improved yield components and increased grain yieldIn different ecological and growing conditions,Mai-jian improved yield components and increased grain yield.By spraying Mai-jian,the yield of 15 common wheat cultivars such as Yumai 2 and Yumai 18 increased by 6.9%~29.4%,while the yield of high-quality wheat cultivars such as Yumai 47 and Yumai 34 increased by 10%. The kernels per ear increased 1~3 on average.The 1000-kernel weight of common wheat cultivars increased by 1.5 g on average while that of the high-quality wheat cultivar Yumai 47 averagely increased by 1.9 g or so.2.Mai-jian improved grain qualityBy spraying Mai-jian,grain quality was improved obviously.The content of grain protein and wet gluten and paste stability time increased by 1.07%~2.2%,3.8%~6.4% and 1~5 min,respectively.3.Mai-jian improved carbon and nitrogen metabolism of the plantMai-jian reduced soluble sugar content in flag leaves.The sugar content in leaves of treated cultivar was higher than that of control at the stage of grain sugar accumulation while was less than that at the stage of dry matter accumulation. Mai-jian reduced the soluble sugar content and improved nitrogen accumulation at the latter stage of grain development.4.Maijian increased plant endurance and grain vigorMai-jian decreased the accumulation of free ammonia and putrescence in adversity. The rate of plants prematurely rotten away decreased by 27.6%while green area of the flag leaf increased by 14.8%.The permeability of cell membrane of the functional leaves decreased differently:in fertile areas,it was decreased by 14.8%;in medium-fertility and infertile areas,it was decreased by 4.9%and 8.7%,respectively. Mai-jian increased grain vigor significantly.
