Alfalfa is a important forage crop with good nutrient value for meat rabbit,however,it is not clear to cause. To study the effects of alfalfa meal on production performance, serum biochemical, antioxidization capacity;lipid metabolism and digestive physiology of meat rabbit. We did the experiment.In the study,120 Japanese big ear rabbits weaned (initial BW=800±20g ) were divided into six treatments (0%, 20%, 30%, 40 %, 50%, and 60% alfalfa meal),5 replicates in each treatment, 4 rabbits for each replicate. The results showed that: (1) The rabbits fed with alfalfa meal were superior in the average daily feed intake,average daily gain and feed-Weight ratio to control group. Comparied with other group,the group IV had the best production performance. It's feed intake was very significantly lower than that of control group, the group III was significantly lower than control group. The average daily gain of group III was significantly higher than control group and group I, but there was no significance difference among group III, IV, and V. (2) The digestive ratio of feed was increased with increasing amount of alfalfa meal. And the digestive ratio of CP of test groups was significantly higher than that of control group, for example, those of group II, III, IV were very significantly higher than that of control group. Digestive ratio of NDF of groups fed with alfalfa meal was very significantly higher than control group. (3) The slaughter percentage and percentage of eviscerated yield of test groups were higher than control group; however, there were no significant diffidence among six groups. The liver weight and spleen weight were increased with the increasing amount of alfalfa meal, and those were significantly or very significantly higher than that of control group.(4)The concentration of Glutamic-pyruvic transminase, glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, and albumin of serum were increased with the amount of alfalfa meal increasing, but the concentration of triglyceride and total cholesterol of serum was decreased with the amount of alfalfa meal increasing. (5) With the increase of alfalfa meal, the concentration of total cholesterol and triglyceride of liver and muscle decreased; however, there were no significantly difference among the groups ,except for group IV, Which it was lower than control group. (6) Adding suitable levels alfalfa meal in rabbits' diet increased the activity of amylase and lipase in duodenum. (7) With the increase of alfalfa meal, the activity of SOD and GSH-Px of serum, liver, and muscle was significantly increased,However concentration of malonaldehyde was significantly decreased, indicating that alfalfa meal can improve the antioxidization capacity of rabbits effectively.(8)With the increasing of alfalfa meal, the total VFA and acetic acid concentration were ascended,Caecum pH and NH3—N concentration were decreased however,but those of group V was increased, The activity of cellulose enzyme was extreme significent (p<0.01) ,This indicates that alfalfa meal can improve the cecum internal environment; (9) With the increase of alfalfa meal, The TAA, EAA and the amino acid with tasty were increased as the increasing of alfalfa meal proportion,Meat becomes flavorous,and increasing it's nutritional value.
