The effects of different vegetation types artificially established in dumping site on soil nutrients, soil water content, soil moisture availability and soil water-storage capacity in Heidaigou opencast mine were examined. The results were as follows: soil organic matter, soil total N,soil total K,soil quick N,soil quick P and soil quick K contents of different vegetation types were significant increased expect soil total P content in comparison with original undisturbed soil;Soil nutrients in Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. + Hippophae rhamnoides L. + Herbages type was the best. In soil profiles of different vegetations, the deeper the soil layer was,the smaller soil water content variation range was;Soil water utilization layer of original vegetation was thicker than the artificial vegetations. As to seasonal variation, different vegetation types was obviously alike, plant growing season can be divide into three periods:soil moisture consumption period, soil moisture compensatory period and soil moisture lessening period. Different vegetations can be arranged in the high-to-low order of soil moisture availability as:Herbages,Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.,Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. + Herbages, original Caragana microphylla,Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. + Hippophae rhamnoides L. + Herbages, original Populus alba L. var. pyramdalis Bge.,Hippophae rhamnoides L.,Populus alba L. var. pyramdalis Bge.,Populus alba L. var. pyramdalis Bge. + Hippophae rhamnoides L. + Herbages. Soil water storage was less than soil water deficit in all vegetations;Herbages type soil water deficit and storage were nearest in different vegetations,Populus alba L. var. pyramdalis Bge. + Hippophae rhamnoides L. + Herbages type was farthest.
