Caragana is a very important kind of desert shrub resource, which is very abundant in Inner Mongolia. Its ecological value and economic value are both very high, it is not only the excellent wood specie to prevent wind and fix sand, but also the high quality raw material to produce wood-based panel and make paper .This thesis investigated the physical performances,the influences of the cutting parameters on cutting forces under the base of wood machining theory. The correlative mathematical models and the optimal cutting parameters are gained. It can reduce production cost of wood-based panel and paper corporation and provide reference value for advancing caragana chipping quality. It is also to provide the scientific supports for designing and developing new chippers.The experiment is carried on by all-purpose mechanical for wood. The data were treated with ANOVA and mathematic regression. Following main results are maintained:The investigation results of the effects of the physical properties of caragana on the cutting forces indicate the cutting forces for different sections are obviously different; the ratio of the main cutting forces in end-grain,longitudinal and transverse sections is about 8.7:1.5:1;The main cutting force increased with the increase of the moisture content of caragana before the moisture content 12.3%, and decreases by inches after that; The ideal moisture content of caragana for chipping is between 40% and 70%.The investigation results of the effects of the cutting parameters on cutting forces show that the rake angle the cutting tool has a distinct influence. The main cutting forces is minimal when the rake angle the cutting tool is 50°; The effect of the cutting depth on the cutting force is obvious, the latter increases with the increase of the former. The normal force decreased with the increase of the cutting depth. The cutting depth should be minish if it can fulfil production need.The results provide important supports for the machining and utilization of caragana.
