With the presence of "Digital Forestry" ideal, forestry digitalization in China develops quickly. Collecting forestry resource data, as an important step of building industry resource database, whose mode is changed. The traditional recording mode with paper and pencils can't satisfiy the precision and speed of the modern data collection. With the development of Embedded system technology and GPS technology, that portable device is used in foresty resource data collection is changing the tranditional mode. Meanwhile, portable device with wireless communication has been become the important instrument to get the published information when forestry GIS based on web is used to publish infomation and monitor resource. This thesis comes out to research data collection system with wireless communication on portable device as a powerfull supplement of dustry web GIS.This thesis aims to research and develop the mobile data collection system on portable SBC (single board microcomputer)--"Data Collection System Based On Mobile GIS". This system is built up with the combination of embedded GIS, GPS and wireless communication technologies. It is expected to fulfill positioning, navigation and data collection in field. Besides the traditional functions, such as spatial information display, query, analysis, the system has the features of real-time positioning and navigation by the GPS technology. Most of all, we can save the data after collecting, and convert the data into an electronic map. These data can be used repeatedly. The map data can be updated with GPRS wireless network technology at real time.In the previous chapters, this thesis describes the status of research and development on Mobile GIS at home and abroad. The problems of getting geographic information and the significance of the applications of mobile GIS in this field are expanded. Then, this thesis analyses the technologies relating to mobile GIS. These analyses provide theoretic and technical bases for the development of "Data Collection System Based On Mobile GIS". Next, this thesis brings forward the design of archetypal system and the realization of function modules. At last this thesis introduces the applications of the system in forestry resources verification and the prospect of future.This thesis focuses on the following technologies: embedded development, embedded GIS, spatial data collection, mobile computing, wireless communication, GPS positioning and navigation, and the fields of computer science and spatial information science.
