This paper deals with study of software tools development for stand structure analyse and target-tree-operation designing to support the close-to-natural forest management both in processing sampling data and operation designing in the management practice. Object forest types for this study are the natural tropical secondary forests in Hainan Island and the temperate zoon plantation of in Beijing region. Data base sets used for this study are coming from the permenant observation plots which set and measured during 2005 to 2007 in these 2 types of forests.Firstly, tendence of the latest development of close-to-nature forest management and the related fields of decision-making support system are introduced.Secondly, to summarize the formality of structure analysis process, the methods of tree species composition, horizontal stand structure and dividing of vertical stand layers are used as examples and standardlised process for stand structure analysis is then concluded for designing related software tool for stand structure analyse which give the fundamental information for close-to-natural forest management.Consequently, the criteria and standards of tree classification and determination of target/disturbance trees are studied by using parameters of tree stem-quality,the ratio of crown width to DBH (Rcwd), degree of dominance, crown height, tree origination and degree of dandification as main variables of the criteria system. Based on the criteria system the standard of selecting and determining target trees is established for stand operation designing. The factors of selection and determination of disturbing trees is established based on the relative parameters both in vertical and horizontal dimensions in reflection the competitiveness between the target tree and the disturbed trees.with supporting of the criteria systems both for structure analysis and selection of target/disturbed trees, the frame of software tools and designing diagrams are established, and programming works is conducted to realize the 2 software tools for stand structure analysis and the target tree operation designing. After then, some application examples of using these software tools are given.At last, a summary of the whole study the remaining problem analyzing are made as the ending of this thesis.
