To explore the allelopathy of Artemisia Frigida Willd, the study analyzed top part aqueous extract and methanol extract of Artemisia Frigida Willd and gases released from dry flower and dry leaves of it. Altogether, adopting extracts of Artemisia Frigida Willd, the study measured seed germination and growing process of 7species (Raphanus sativus L., Cucumis sativus L., Sorghum Sudanense (Piper), Melilotus officinalis Lam., Medicago sativa L. cv. Aergangjin, Medicago sativa L. cv. Zhungeer and Astagalrus adsurgens Pall. seed) and the seedling growth condition of 3species of grasses (Sorghum Sudanense (Piper), Melilotus officinalis Lam., Medicago sativa L. cv. Aergangjin). The pilot results as follows:1. Analyzed by GC/MS, aqueous extract of Artemisia Frigida Willd mainly contained Camphor(27.78%),Achillin(10.40%),Cineole(9.28%),Borneo(l7.87%),Artemisiaketone(5.16%); methanol extract of Artemisia Frigida Willd mainly contained Achillin(15.94%),Ethyl Acetate(9.17%),Arachibonic acid methylester(8.30%),Spathulenol(7.46%). The deduction analyzed from GC/MS showed that, the main allelochemicals that Artemisia Frigida Willd contain were Camphor, Achillin and Cineole.2. The germination rate of test plants decreased with the increased concentration of aqueous extracts from Artemisia Frigida Willd Treated with 5mg·ml-1 aqueous extract, the germination rate of the five grasses decreased by 3.9%,7.1%,3.6%,5.9% and 1.8% respectively; aqueous extract from Artemisia Frigida Willd controlled the germ length and radicle length by affecting accumulation and distribution of nutritive substances of the young seedlings at germination time, and the growth quantity of the plumule and radicle decreased by 1.5~14.2% and 1.0~30.7% respectively; The inhibitory effects on the germination and seedling growth of methanol extract from Artemisia Frigida Willd were stronger than that of in the same condition.3. The results of seedling growth experiment showed that, apart from 0.5mg·ml-1 aqueous extract, other dentisy treatment to root length of Medicago sativa L. cv. Aergangjin and stem-leaf length of Sorghum Sudanense(Piper) had inhibitory effect and the inhibition rate were decreased by 18.0~100.0%,19.7~100% respectively, and achieved to prominent and totally prominent competence. All the density treatment of Artemisia Frigida Willd to Chlorophyll content of Sorghum Sudanense(Piper) were most remarkable, and decreased by 15.9~42.2% compared with the CK.The results of this study proved that there were allelopathy effect in Artemisia Frigida Willd and provided the basic theory for the mechanism of the formation of mono-dominant community in the process of grassland degradation.
