This assay researched influence of VOCs from Artemisia Frigida Willd with damnification and un-damnification treatment on seeds germination and potted seeding's physiological characteristics of seven Medicago sativa varieties (Medicago sativa Zhungeer, Medicago sativa Zhongmu NO.1, Medicago sativa Grassland NO.2, Medicago sativa Grassland NO.3, Medicago sativa Godden Empress, Medicago sativa Algonqin, Medicago sativa Aohan). In order to make clear the allelopathy of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from A. frigida Willd, we studied the effects of VOCs from undamaged and damaged A. frigida Willd on seeds germination percentage and seedlings growth for 7 varieties of Medicago sativa. Results showed that the seeds germination percentage and germination index of M. sativa were significantly inhibited by VOCs from undamaged and damaged A. frigida Willd. The germination percentage, treated with VOCs from damaged A. frigida Willd, was decreased by 5.56-15.00% comparing with the treatment of the undamaged. Comparing with CK, roots length, stems height and seedlings fresh weight in the treatment of VOCs from undamaged A. frigida Willd were decreased by 10.39-22.75%, 12.68-30.43% and 11.15-16.83%, respectively. Inhibitions of VOCs from damaged A. frigida Willd were stronger than the undamaged. The results of pot cultivation assay showed that influence of two treatments, expressing promotion to underground part and inhabitation to upground part, on root length, stem height, fresh weight and dry weight of seven varieties differed which of daminification treatment was stronger than un-danmification. Compared with CK, influence of un-daminification on biomass increase allocation of underground part and upground part is weak with certain promotion root-shoot ratio; daminification promoted root-shoot ratio of Medicago sativa with obvious promotion of root-shoot ratio in dry matter. Daminification treatment inhibited chlorophyll content increase more obviously than un-daminification treatment. By the analysis of light response curve of Medicago sativa, VOCs from A. Frigida Willd inhibited efficiency of optical energy of Medicago sativa seeding in strong light and weak light and influence of daminification was the strongest. With the trend of promotion of rhizosphere gross absorbency acerage and active absorbency acreage, root growth of Medicago sativa seeding was promoted because of enhancement of root system activity. Two treatments inhibited stoma opening and influence of daminification treatment on leaf gaseous exchange and water dissipation was stronger than un-daminification treatment. Medicago sativa with daminification induced more hydroxybenzene acid content than that with un-daminification.Effect of VOCs from damaged and undamaged A. Frigida Willd.on seed germination and seedling growth was studied in this assay. Relationship between A. Frigida Willd. VOCs and seed germination and seedling growth of alfalfa was illuminated, founding a basis for wfurther research on effect of A. Frigida Willd VOCs on grassland forage and better utilization of grossland ecology system.
