The research adopted seed coating agents with traditional China herb and Chitosan. The original Chinese medicine contained Sophora flavescens, Phellodendron, etc. No.1, No.2, No.3, No.4, No.5 could be made with the original Chinese herb liquid of 0.1 mL,0.2mL,0.3 mL,0.4 mL,0.5 mL diluted to 100 mL and 0.1% Chitosan as film..Local main maize cultivators FH 10 were studies on influences about seed coating agents with five different concentrations of Chinese medicine and 0.1% Chitosan compared with uncoated seed. The effects of the seed coating agents on seed vigor, plant physiological character, seedling in field, yield and quality of harvested seeds were studied through laboratory experiment, potted experiment and field experimentThe results of the laboratory experiment are as followed: the seed coating agents increased the energy and percentage of germination, Germination index and reduced MGT of maize seed. No.1, No.3 and No.4 obviously increased the vigorous seedling percentage, and No.2 and No.3 increased the length of root. The mumbers of root were increased by the seed coating, but increasing along with the increasing concentration of Chinese medicine, the dry weight ratio of root to shoot changed as a parabola. As a whole, No.2 and No.3 played an important role on the vigorous seedling percentage. Effects of different physiological index of maize seedling were different with different seed coating agents. No.2 and No.4 enhanced the amylase activity of maize albumen, and No.1 and No.4 could remarkably improve root vigor. No.2 and No.5 enriched the chlorophyll content. Five kinds of seed coating agents remarkably declined Carotenoid content. Except No.3, other seed coating agents all enhanced the CAT and POD activity of maize seedling compared with no coating. The coating treatment could reduce the content of MDA.The results of the potted experiment are as followed: No.1, No.2 and No.4 obviously effected the shoot height in three periods of maize seedling, and different seed coating agents increased the stem diameter differently., especially No.1, No.2 and No.5. The treatments of No.1 and No.2 remarkably improve the area of leaf of maize seedling. Except No.5, other seed coating agents all reduced the chlorophyll content. Proline content in maize's leaves enhanced by different treatments with growing development, and No.3 and No.5 increased more than other treatments. The concentration of total soluble sugar in leaf of No.1 treatment was more than on coating in three periods. Except No.1, the CAT activity of other treatments changed as"v", but the activities of catalase (CAT) of No.3 and No.5. treatments all higher than activites of uncoated. In three leaves and one half leaf period, the treatment of comparison had the lowest activity of peroxidase (POD), and different treatments had different changing trends with growing development. However, seed coating agents enhanced the POD activity of maize seedling. The potted and laboratory experiment showed that the treatments of seed coating could reduce the malondialdehyde (MDA) content of maize seedling because of reducing thecal oxidation.The results of the field experiment are as followed: Seed coating agents enhanced the field seedling emergence and stand establishment of maize seed, lowered the percentage of pest injury of maize seed, and improved the root vigar so that made the maize seedling stronger. Seed coating agents increased ear length, ear diameter, numberof kernels per ear and weight of 100 kernels and reduced barren ear tip so that the yield and income could increase. At the same time, protein content of maize seed changed as a parabola with the growing concentration of Chinese herb. No.1 and No.5 treatments remarkably improved the ether extract content of maize seed compared with uncoated treatment. No.1 and No.3 obviously increased the amylum. The content of lysine did not obviously chang with different treatments.In conclusion, seed coating agents could improve seed vigor, growth and development of plant, and the yield. At the same time, the quality of harvest seeds improved. No. 4 had good effects on seed vigor,quality of maize seedling, the yield and quality of maize seed. Because the seed coating agents with traditional China herb and Chitosan were environmental, they could be used as an assistant measure in ecological agriculture.
