Qinling Mountains are the distinct demarcation line between China's temperate and subtropical climates, and the watershed between Yellow River and Yangtze River valleys. Mount Taibai, the highest peak of Qinling Mts., is 3767.2 meters above the sea level. The topography and vegetation in this area are complicated. In elevations from 780m to 3767.2m the vegetation zonation is obvious. The soil abounding with rich organic matter and humus in this area proved to be favorable to the diversity of soil-inhabiting fungi. This study is a part of the project on fungal diversity of dematiaceous Hyphomycetes from soil in China. It was aimed at clarifying the diversity at genus and species level, the survival and distribution status and the ecological significance of the soil dematiaceous Hyphomycetes in Mountain Taibai and its surrounding area. So we can contribute to the control of disease, breed selecting, distribution of plants, plant quarantine and so on. Also, we can supply the information to the system of fungus. In this study, a total of 199 isolates of soil dematiaceous hyphomycetes belonging to 43 species in 25 genera were obtained from soil samples of Mt. Taibai and its surrounding area, Shaanxi Province, China. There are 3 new species and 7 new records. New species: Eladia pachyphialis W. Song, J. F. Yu & T. Y. Zhang, Gliomastix pallescens W. Song, J. F. Yu & T. Y. Zhang, Scolecobasidium pallescens W. Song, J. F. Yu & T. Y. Zhang.New records: Acremoniula sarcinellae, Allescheriella crocea, Chrysosporium merdarium, Chrysosporium pannorum, Oidiodendron flavum, Oidiodendron truncatum, Scopulariopsis chartarum. All specimens (dried cultures) and living cultures studid have been deposited in the Herbarium of Shandong Agricultural University: Plant Pathology (HSAUP).Mt. Taibai is very steep, the distribution of plants is in different levels, our results show that, the type and the number of fungal species have relation to the vegetation. Shannon-Wiener diversity index, evenness, ecological niche breadth and ecological niche overlap were used to analyze the community structure and eco-niche of soil dematiaceous hyphomycetes in different forest types in northern and southern slope of Mt. Taibai. The results showed that distribution of soil dematiaceous hyphomycetes on southern and sorthern slopes of Mt. Taibai has the obvious environmental gradients pattern. Altitude and forest zong type were the primary determinants of the fungi community distribution. Also, the result show that, in the northern slope of Mt. Taibai, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Myrothecium, Stachybotrys, Scolecobasidium, Doratomyces are advantage genera. Arthrinium, Pleurophragmium, Pseudobotrytis are rare genera. In the southern slope of Mt. Taibai, Humicola, Veronaea, Scopulariopsis, Alternaria are advantage genera. Pleurophragmium, Pseudobotrytis, Torula, Trichocladium are rare genera.
