This study observed the seeds of 36 Larix gmellini Rupr. families which were introduced by Xiaolong Shan forestry department of Gansu province from CAF (China Academy of Forestry). After chemical treatment and planting the seeds into the container, all seedlings were planted into the researching plots with 4 replications of each family and the planting density was 7×15cm. The growth of seedlings was investigated and examined by the standard deviation and LSR test. The results showed the height and stem diameter have the significant differences among the 36 Larix families and they have plenty base of genetic variation. Parameter estimation of quantitative inheritance showed, broad heritability of seedling height is 0.447, genetic variation coefficient is 14.5%, broad heritability of collar diameter is 0.463, genetic variation coefficient is 11. 1%. 10 families of Larix (No. 191, No. 258, No. 192, No. 159, No. 257? , No. 267, No. 169, No. 358, No. 298, No. 78 and No. 185 families) were selected by method of comprehensive multiple-character evaluation, when seedling height and growth quantity of stem diameter are viewed as index. The growth of height of seedlings corresponds with the growth of stem diameter of seedlings and the best height growth performance of No. 191 showed 64.3% faster growing than the slowest growing family and the best stem diameter growth performance of No. 185 showed 37.3% fast growing than the No. 64 family. According to the climate influence observation, there are no freezing damage occurred in the first two years of seedlings growth and all families of seedlings can adapt to the local soil and climate conditions for well growth performance.
