Salix psammophila occupies an important position in the construction of ecological environment.It is an important plant resources in deserticulture industrial development too. With industrialization developing and desertification phenomenon being worse,the requirement for Salix psammophila increases rapidly. Selecting and breeding different Salix psammophila to meet different needs becomes an important part in Salix psammophila management.For sexual reproduction of Salix, the morphological characteristics of inflorescence and fruit and seed ger mination were studied,then some good plants were selected.Those will provide the theoretical basis for genetic improvement and breeding of Salix in future. The results were as follows:The result of Salix in flowering period showed that there were some difference among different samples and coefficient of variation were different among different characters. Coefficient of variation of the most section of crown area,number of inflorescence on one branch and number of inflorescence on one tree were the first; Number of branch, color branches, inflorescence state and color bud scales are second;High,dirmeter near ground,length of branch,length of branch inserted inflorescence and age of branch were the last.The distributi on of high, dirmeter near ground, length of branch and proportion of length of branch and lengt h of branch inserted inflorescence were normal. The distribution of the most section of crown area, number of inflorescence on one tree were normal but to left.The correlation between the most section of crown area and number of inflorescence on one tree had the most relativity. Number of inflorescence on one tree was also relevant to the length of branch inserted infloresc ence and the number of branch 2,3 years old. The correlation between number of branch and age of branch was positive. The proportion of female and male tree was 1:0.75.The result of Salix in fruit maturity showed that coefficient of variation of the most sectio n of crown area,number of branch,number of fruit on one branch , number of fruit on one tree a nd number of little fruit on one tree were the first; Length of fruit, proportion of length and width, high and dirmeter near ground,length of branch and length of branch inserted infloresce nce are the second;Width of fruit,length of little fruit and width, and proportion of length and width of little fruit were the last.The distribution of length of fruit, number of little fruit, length of little fruit and width were normal. The distribution of width of fruit was normal but to right. The proportion of length and width of fruit and number of fruit on one branch were normal distribution but to left.Length and width of fruit,number of little fruit on one fruit and proportio n of length and width of little fruit among the samples had the difference most significantly. Proportion of length and width of fruit among the samples had the difference significantly.The correlation between number of inflorescence and number of fruit was significant. Among the sixteen characters,those had the correlation most significantly were between the number of little fruit and length of fruit,proportion of length and width of fruit,between width of fruit and length of little fruit,width of little fruit,between dirmeter near ground and length of branch,number of fruit on one branch,number of fruit on one tree, between number of little frui t on one tree and number of branch,the most section of crown area,between length of branch inserted fruit and number of fruit on one branch,number of fruit on one tree.The most section of crown area was the main factor on the number of little fruit on one tree.The principal components of samples were sorted.The first ten samples were selected as go od trees. The samples could be sorted four kinds by cluster analysis according to length of fruit ,width of fruit,number of little fruit,length of little fruit and proportion of length and width of little fruit respectively.The first three kinds were selected as good trees. According to proportio n of length and width of fruit,samples can only be sorted two kinds and the first kind was selected as good trees.According to width of little fruit,samples can be sorted five kinds and the first three kinds were selected as good trees.According to collectivity,including length of fruit ,width of fruit,number of little fruit ,length of little fruit and width of little fruit,the samples can be sorted six kinds and the first five kinds were selected as good trees.The result of seed germination showed that germination viability of seed was lower.The average germination viability was only 37.53.Its distribution was normal.Seed was very small. The average weight of thousand seeds was only 0.0791g. Its distribution was normal but to left. Both the difference of germination viability of seed and weight of thousand seeds were very significant among samples.Samples could be sorted seven kinds by cluster analysis according to germination viability of seed.The first five kinds were selected as good trees. According to weight of thousand seeds,only four samples were selected as good trees.
