The effects of sodium fumaric acid were conducted on in vitro gas production and DM degradation. The influence of adding fumaric acid to diet on digestion, metabolism and serum biochemical indexes of sheep were further investigated to study the effects of adding sodium fumaric acid to diet on digestion, metabolism and growth of sheep.Expermentâ… :Gas production was measured at 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24h over all the in vitro incubation that 1g corn straw and 0.25g starch were added in ruminal fermentation as substrate and additives sodium fumaric acid. sodium fumaric acid significantly increased total gas production in vitro (P <0.05),enchance in DM degradation was observed when sodium fumaric acid was used (P<0.05).Experment II:This research was undertaken to study the effects of adding sodium fumaric acid (SFA) to diet on digestion and metabolism of sheep. Eighteen male China merino(Xinjiang type) sheep were selected and randomly divided into three group.10g and 20g of sodium fumaric acid were added to the diet of groupâ…¡and groupâ…¢,respectively, the groupâ… wasn't added SFA as control group. The results showed that:compared with control group, the DM intake were increased by 7.71%,13.98% when 10,20g SFA/d was fed; the amount of the digestible OM,CP,cellulose,semi-cellulose were increased significantly; The apparent digestibility of DM OM were increased by 7.18% and 6.74% when 20g SFA/d was fed; The apparent digestibility of cellulose was increased by 9.78%. there was no significant effects of two different amounts of sodium fumaric acid on the Ca and P metabolism.Experiment III: Blood samples were collected from the sheep jugular vein and were prepared serum when experiment of digestion and metabolism were completing. Serum biochemical indexes were determined containing total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, cholesterol, glucose, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, glutamic pyruvic transaminase, glutamic oxalacetic transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, total calcium, total phosphorus. The results indicated that addition of SFA didn't have notablely influence on the sheep serum biochemical indexes such as urea, calcium, phosphorus, glucose, triglyceride and glutamic pyruvic transaminase. The study indicated that sodium fumaric acid obviously increased ruminal fermentation production in vitro (P<0.05), inhanced (P<0.05) in DM degradation was observed .The digestions in diet of the DM, OM, cellulose and semi-cellulose were increased when 10g, 20g SFA/d was added, there is a no significant increase on metabolism of N, Ca and P. The addition of sodium fumaric acid to diet didn't have apparent influence on urea, calcium, phosphorus, glucose, triglyceride and glutamic pyruvic transaminase in sheep serum.
