More sulfur is needed in garlic than others, and sulfur is important to the development, quality and yield of garlic. The field experiment was conducted to study the effect of sulphur on development, yield and quality of white garlic, which were expected to introduce to farmers. The results showed that:There was lack sulfur in soil, sulphur promoted the growth and development of white garlic plant, increased the accumulation of biomass and rate of leaf area of white garlic. The plant height, the growth of root, leaf area, accumulation amount of dry matter, Chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total content were increased with the from 0 to 180 kg·hm-2. These indexes did not increase with the addition of more than 225 kg·hm-2 with sulphur application. However, as long as the amount of sulphur was from 0 to 225 kg·hm-2, the steam diameter of white garlic were positively correlated with sulphur application. Executing sulphur fertilizer benefited the nutrition status of garlic. And in 180 kg·hm-2 with sulphur application, the content of reducting sugar, Vc, amino acid, carbohydrate, alliin and organic sulfide were highest. The more the sulphur application, the more the content of soluble protein, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in garlic were. Suitable sulphur application could improve the uptakes of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but high sulphur application could not. As sulphur fertilizer application was increased, the nutrition balance was adjusted, the resistance of leaf rust was enhanced, and the yield was increased. When executing 180 kg·hm-2 sulphur, the yield of white garlic and the output/input were both higher than others, were 14215.05 kg·hm-2 and 14.86, respectively, the yield were more 1755.0 kg·hm-2 than the control, the number of bulb was most with diameter over 50 mm, the fresh weight of single garlic was highest. Obviously, the maximize yield and economic efficiency were obtained with sulphur fertilizer rate 180 kg·hm-2.
