Hetao Irrigation District is one of China's three major irrigation districts, the growth of farm crop mainly depends on irrigation, the problems of lower water use efficiency still widely exists, especially in agricultural water use. The development of irrigation management system is an important measure that water resource can be use rationablelly. Moisture monitoring and forecasting technology is the core of the irrigation management system.This paper summarizes the research to monitor and forecast soil moisture content at home and abroad. On the basis of testing in the fields and analysing of its data,we developped a monitoring system preliminary,and also study on forecasting model for soil moisture.The main conclusions are following:1. The soil moisture monitoring system has been designed preliminary for the project area, the overall idea, technical methods are determined. The structure, functions, methods and principles of the realization of system are described. It has been the basis for the soil moisture forecast model, it is also useful for improving irrigation management system.2. Use the data of soil moisture in 2008, analysis of the change of soil moisture in the crop growth period. Explained the changes in soil moisture is broadly divided into three stages throughout the growth period, the changes of soil moisture in vertical directions are divided into three roughly.3. With the weather data and moisture data daily in the project area, two BP neural network models were set up to forecast soil moisture,and they have different input factors. The results showed that the required parameters are easier to access, and have less error in soil moisture forecast of two models, as long as the next period precipitation and meteorological data are forecasted, different depths of the soil moisture can be forecast in crop root layer. When they are applied,the types of parameter in the second model are less than the first,it is easy to access。The form are relatively simple, and easy to operate。...
