Selection And Cultivation Experiment Of Standard Chrysanthemum Varieties For Out-season Production

Chrysanthemum(Chrysanthemum×morifolium Ramat.) is one of the traditional flowers of China and one of the four major cut flowers in the world.The purpose of this research is searching for excellent Chinese chrysanthemum cultivars for March and May Holiday,giving referrence for the out-season cultivation of other cultivation form of Chrysanthemum,providing breeding materials for year-round Chrysanthemum production.1) By means of investigation and analysis of chrysanthemum resources in chrysanthemum germplasm repository and according to Chinese traditional standard chrysanthemum aesthetical standard,The author elected 33 and 57 chrysanthemum varieties as test material for flowering in march and on 'May Day'.2) Through tested in field,the author studied and grasped Chinese standard chrysanthemum cultivation practices,then analyzed and evaluated standard chrysanthemum varieties for out-season cultivation.3) To use forcing culture and retarding culture technologies,the author studied the influence of out-season cultivation techniques on flower development of traditional cultivars,to observe breed fertility,plant types,color and florescence of each variety,and also formulated evaluation criterion for Chinese standard chrysanthemum qualities.4) The author founds that:in the experiment for the flowering time in March,the results are that September and October is the time when the chrysanthemum start the process of floral development. Some measures to maintain good conditions to meet the demands of the vegetative growth of plants in out-season cultivation should be taken to prevent the phenomenon of rosette.The time required to recover from rosette differ from different cultivars.After the recovering it would still has a negative effects on the shape and flower quality of the plants.In addition,the author also did experiment for the May Holiday sales.The result is that,after stopped the complemented light around March 22th and undertook no dark treatments,most experimental cultivars could flower and maintain good quality.5) According to the evaluation on flower color and flowering time of,all the experimental cultivars,4 Chinese chrysanthemum cultivars suitable for mass-production in March market and 7 cultivars for May Holiday market were screened out.
