Every farmer manages 1.33--2.67 hm2 cotton field in Xin Jing provence, top cutting mainly does by human being. The characteristical of this job is heave workload, multi-input, low efficiency, which have greatly handicaped the cutton industry modernization.The following methods are used: (1) design the top cutting part, and using Adams do kinematic analysis. (2) design the transmission system and distribution the transmission ratio, then simulated the fatigue life of the main shaft on the basis of static analysis. (3) using Adams to select the headstock, and then optimization the headstock in order to reduce the weight.The mainly result as following: (1) the relationship between cutting point and the velocity of tractor are getted, so the best velocity of tractor and cutting part can be selected; choose the best dimension of the cutting part. The cutting part can swing over 200mm; (2) design the transmission system, determine the type of transmission and the layout of the program and distribution the transmission ratio; check the strength and the fatigue life of the main shaft; (3) choose the type of the headstock, then choose the structure of rear-driven wheel; optimization the headstock by using the thickness and the size as variables to reducing the weight by 51 percents.
