This study used four native sheep breeds and five native goat breeds of Henan. Several indexes, such as body weight and body size in each age group, reproductive performance of the ewe, slaughter performance in 11 to 14 month age, conventional components and amino acid contents of meat were determined respectively. And based on the analysis of these indexes, the growth development characters, reproductive performance, slaughter performance, meat quality traits and nutrition characteristics of local breeds were discussed. The results showed that the weight in each age group of Henan Small Tail Han Sheep were heaviest among the four native sheep breeds, and it were significantly higher than Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep and Taihang Fur sheep(p<0.01). Body size in each age group of Henan Small Tail Han Sheep were largest than other three breeds ,while Henan Large Tail Han Sheep was took the second place and Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep and Taihang Fur Sheep's were relatively small. The correlation between heart girth, chest width indexes of four Henan local breeds with its body weight was extremely significan(tp<0.01). The direct effect of body length, chest width on body weight was large and the indirect effects of body height, body length, heart girth, chest width on body weight were large. The regression correlation between body length and body weight were general. The regression correlation between body height and body weight was only significant in Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep(p<0.05). The significant regression correlation between heart girth and body weight only showed in Henan Small Tail Han Sheep and Taihang Fur Sheep(p<0.05).The result obtained from fitting out growth model of body weight showed that the inflection point month age of Henan Large Tail Han Sheep (3.58 months) was the earliest, and Taihang Fur Sheep was the latest (5.17 months). The inflection point weight (29.25kg), the most monthly gain (5.07kg) and the minimum weigh(t79.50kg)of Henan Small Tail Han Sheep were all the largest among the four sheep breeds. The puberty age of ewe in Henan four sheep breeds, with Henan Large Tail Han Sheep being the earliest (5.36 months), Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (5.90 months) and Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (6.00 months) took second place, and Taihang Fur Sheep was the latest (6.90 months). The lambing rate of Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (260%) was the highest among the four sheep breeds in Henan, followed by Henan Large Tail Han Sheep (229.33%) and Taihang Fur Sheep (133.33%), and Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep was the lowest (106.81%).Slaughter performance: the slaughter rate of Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (53.24%) was the highest among the four sheep breeds, and significantly higher than Taihang Fur Sheep (49.92%) (p<0.05), extremely significant higher than Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (46.25%) and Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (45.27%) (p<0.01). The carcass dressing rate of Henan Large Tail Sheep (85.89 %) was highest among the four sheep breeds, and extremely significant than the carcass dressing rate of Taihang Fur Sheep (82.66%), Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (82.19%) and Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (81.32%) (p<0.01). The content of dry matter in meat of four sheep breeds, with Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (31.41%) being the highest, and its content was similar to the content of dry matter in Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (31.13%) (p>0.05).The content of dry matter in the above mentioned breeds were both extremely significant than Taihang Fur Sheep (28.78%) and Henan Large Tail Sheep (28.22%) (p<0.01). The content of fat in meat quality of four sheep breeds, with Henan Large Tail Sheep (8.85%) being the highest; and the content of fat in meat quality among the Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (5.26%), Taihang Fat Sheep (4.53%) and Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (4.15%) had not significant difference (p>0.05), but extremely significant lower than Henan Large Tail Han Sheep (8.85%) (p<0.01). The content of protein in meat of Taihang Fur Sheep (23.88%) was the highest among the four sheep breeds, and was similar to Henan Large Tail Han Sheep (22.49%) (p>0.05). The content of protein in meat of these two breeds were extremely higher than Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (18.47%) (p<0.01). The ash content of meat quality in Taihang Fur Sheep (1.19%) was the highest among four sheep breeds, and was extremely higher than that of meat quality in Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (1.01%), Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (0.97%) and Henan Large Tail Sheep (0.91% ) (p<0.01). The total amino acid content of muscle in Taihang Fur Sheep (631.18mg / g) was the highest among four sheep breeds, it was significant higher than Yuxi Fat Tail Sheep (592.99mg/g) (p<0.05) and extremely significant higher than Henan Large Tail Han Sheep (561.16mg/g) and Henan Small Tail Han Sheep (418.82mg / g) (p<0.01).The body size index of Henan Dairy Goat was the largest among five native goat breeds in each age group, Lushan niu tui Goat took second place, and Taihang Black Goat was the smallest. The body weight index of Lushan niu tui Goat was the largest among five native goat breeds in each age group, Funiu White Goat took second place, and Taihang Black Goat was the smallest. And the difference of body weight between theses two breeds was extremely significant (p<0.01). The body height, body length, heart girth, chest depth of five native goat breeds and their body weight were all extremely significant correlated (p<0.01), and the indirect effects of above indexes to body weight in five native goat breeds were all greater; the direct effects of heart girth to body weight in five native goat breeds was generally larger. In the optimum regression equation of body size to body weight, the regression relation between body length and body weight as well as the regression relation between heart girth and body weight were generally significant (p<0.05). The regression relation between body height and body weight in Taihang Black Goat was not significant (p>0.05), but the regression relation between body height and body weight in other four breeds were generally significant (p<0.05).The fitted model of the growth of body weight indicated that: the inflection point age of Lushan niu tui Goat was the earliest (5.46 months), and the maximum monthly gain was as well as the most (4.16 kg); for Henan dairy goat, both of the inflection point weight (19.19kg) and the minimum weight (52.16kg) were the most among five goat breeds, yet, the inflection point weight (13.63kg), the maximum monthly gain (1.41kg) and the minimum weight (37.07)of Taihang Black Goat were all the least. Among the local goat breeds of Henan, puberty of Huai Goat was the earliest (3.43 months), and the latest was Taihang Black Goat (8.73 months); about the lambing rate, Huai Goat was the most (329.20%), the second was Funiu White Goat (230.00%), and Henan Dairy Goat was the lowest (106.00%).Among the local goat breeds of Henan, the dressing percentage of Funiu White Goat was the highest (56.13%), and was significantly higher than those of Henan Dairy Goat (50.19%), Huai goat(48.76%),Taihang Black Goat(46.36%) and Lushan niu tui Goat (34.80%)(p﹤0.01); the carcass dressing rate of Funiu White Goat was the highest (88.01%), and was significantly higher than those of Henan Dairy Goat (85.12%), Huai Goat(82.86%), Lushan niutui Goat (78.72%) and Taihang Black Goat (76.70%)(p﹤0.01); for the dry matter content of muscle, Huai Goat was the highest (28.67%), and Lushan niu tui Goat was the lowest(23.60).There was extremely significant differences between these two breeds; the protein content of Funiu White Goat was the highest (22.94%), yet, the protein content of Taihang Black Goat was the lowest (21.29%), and there was significant difference between the two breeds(p﹤0.05); for the ash content, Henan Dairy Goat was the highest (1.13%), Huai Goat was the lowest (0.93%), and there was extremely significant difference between these two breeds(p﹤0.01); in the case of the total amino acid of muscle, Lushan niu tui Goat was the first (729.50mg/g), which was significant higher than Taihang Black Goat (674.97mg/g) (p<0.05) and extremely significant higher than Huai Goat (623.78mg/g)(p﹤0.01) .
