To learn its general toxic effect on animal body, the present research evaluated the safety of the Chinese herbal Yucca through the acute toxicity experiments on mice and the sub-chronic toxicity on rats. Further studies of the herbal were learned via clinical experiments on its effects of reducing ammonia concentration inside the chicken coop and improving the production performance of laying hens.1.Acute toxicity experimentsExamined the acute toxicity effect of the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca on mice, the result showed that the LD50 of the herbal can not be measured through the pre-experiment. Administering with the largest accumulated amount of 25 g / kg, the mice did not appear in acute poisoning, other clinical manifestations were normal; The liver, kidneys and other major organs, autopsy found no swelling, atrophy, bleeding, color abnormalities, adhesion, hardness and other abnormal changes, which indicated that the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca is with little acute toxicity, and is safe for clinical use.2.sub-chronic toxicity experimentsWith rats as the experimental animal, the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca was divided into the high, medium and low-dose groups, which were drunk by rats respectively for 40 days, then compared to the control group of which the rats drank water to study the effects of the herbal on general condition of the rats, body weight, feed intake, blood and biochemical parameters, the organ coefficient of the main organs and pathological changes. The results showed that the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca can promote weight gain in rats and feed intake, with no adverse effects on the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, hemoglobin content, and alanine aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen, triglycerides, blood glucose, total protein, albumin Serum biochemical parameters of the rats, also with no adverse effects on rat's liver, spleen, lung, kidney and other major organs'coefficient, paraffin tissue section observed no pathological changes.3. Effect of reducing ammonia concentration in chicken houses and improving the production performance of laying hensThe clinical trials were done on a farm in Qingdao, China. To study the effect of the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca on reducing ammonia concentration in chicken houses and improving the production performance of laying hens, laying hens were divided into Yucca administered group and non-administered control group. The experimental period was two weeks. The results showed that the herbal could make the ammonia concentration inside the chicken coops from 60.12 mg / kg down to 27.48 mg / kg, with significant difference compared with the control group, the ammonia elimination rate was 54.29%, be able to slow the decline in egg laying rate and improve production performance.To sum up, the traditional Chinese herbal Yucca has no adverse reactions and side effects on animal organism, and also can reduce the ammonia concentration inside the chicken coops, improve animal performance.
