Hole digger is an important tree planting equipment, its performance will directly affect the quality and efficiency of afforestation. Along with the growing importance of the environmental protection and increasing labor costs, mechanization afforestation has become a trend in China. Therefore, the development of high performance, low-cost tree planting hole diggers will not only produce good economic benefits, it will also bring good ecological and social benefits to us.According to the time-consuming, laborious, high-costing traditional design methods for the hole digger, this paper studied the main components of a mounted hole digger and obtained its performance parameters after analysis and simulation work on the basis of the modern design methods and tools, including the three-dimensional modeling techniques, finite element method and the virtual prototyping. In the light of the structural characteristics and the actual working conditions of the selected type hole digger, its three-dimensional solid model and finite element model were established at the beginning, the static analysis, modal analysis and the hitch motion simulation were all done subsequently. In this process, the application of the Pro/E 3D mechanical design software and finite element analysis software was critical. The main contribution including:(1)Built the three-dimensional solid model of the hole digger through Pro/E and fixed the structural parameters and working parameters of the auger.(2)Led in the solid model of the auger to ANSYS software, established finite element model of the vane, the static analysis was done to obtain the stress and deformation data for further optimization.(3) Established finite element model of the hole digger spindle, static and modal analysis were done at the same time. Stress data, deformation data, and the first ten modal shapes were received for the purpose of dynamic analysis of the hole digger spindle.(4) According to the actual size of the hitch, three-dimensional solid models were created through Pro/E, then they were assembled. Using Mechanism module of Pro/E, this paper researched the motion simulation of the hitch, obtained the movement parameters of the auger and verified whether they were reasonable.
