Study On Culture Of Wintersweet

Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox) is a Chinese endemic shrub and traditional famous flower with long cultivation history and splendid flower culture. According to the idea that distinguishing wintersweet culture from Mei culture comes before summing-up and studying wintersweet culture, data on wintersweet culture were preliminarily collected, sorted and researched. In the paper, wintersweet culture was researched in the following aspects:1. Wintersweet was not formally distinguished from Mei until the earlier Song Dynasty, which caused nominal confusion in the history. The origin of wintersweet's Chinese name lamei was researched in the paper, and textual research on 45 alias of wintersweet in 7 categories was done.2. There were many wintersweet cutivars in the history, 20 wintersweet cutivars in 4 historical periods were verified in the paper.3. In the paper, according to the characteristics of the wintersweet and Mei, judgment criteria for their flower culture were formulated preliminarily in the aspects of florescence, flower fragrance and flower color.4. According to the above textual research on historical wintersweet cutivars, it was preliminarily concluded that the evolution of wintersweet culture could be divided into 4 periods.5. Literature is an important aspect of wintersweet culture, and it was systematically researched in the 4 aspects of allusion and folk legend, poem, novel, essay in this paper.6. Art is also an important aspect of wintersweet culture, and it was systematically researched in the aspects of painting, music, bonsai, flower arranging, handicraft articles, etc.
