Rice appearance quality had been becoming one of the most important traits in the rice breeding program.It was mainly referred to grain length (GL),grain width(GW),grain thickness(GT),ratio of length and width( L/W ) and chalkiness(CH). In the paper, a recombinant inbred line population with 184 lines was developed, which was derived from a cross between Chuanxiang 29B (Oryza sativa indica) and Lemont (Oryza sativa japonica),The quantitative trait loci(QTL) for six appearance traits including grain length(GL), grain width(GW) , grain thickness(GT),grain weight (GW, chalkiness(CH). and grain length-width ratio (GLW) were mapped in two environments (Chengduand Hainan).The main results were as follows:(1)A genetic linkage map, contained 98 SSR markers, was constructed. The map covered a total of 1244.8cM with an average interval of 17.25cM.(2) The correlation analysis among rice appearance traits indicated that,RGT had a highly significant positive correlation with RGL,RGW;KGW had a highjly significant positive correlation with RGL,RGW and RGT;PCG had a highly significant positive correlation with RGW,KGW,However,RCG had a significant negative correlation with RGL,RCG had a significant positive correlation with RGT;L/W had a highly significant negative correlation with RGW,PCG,L/W had a significant negative correlation with RGT,KGW;However, L/W had a highly significant positive correlation with RGL in the same enviroment(3)The total of 18 QTLs distributed on eleven chromosomes were detected, including 9 QTLs in Hainan experimental point and 9 QTLs in Chengdu experimental point,and 3 QTLs in both Hainan and Chengdu experimental point ,locating on chromosome 2,3,4,5,6 and 7.(4) There was the QTLs cluster distribution on chromosomes , On the 7rd chromosome, a QTLs cluster for RGW and KGW was located between RM478 and RM351. A QTLs cluster for RGW and KGW on the 5th chromosome (RM164-RM3437) was identified. There was also a QTLs cluster for RGW,RGL and L/W on the 7th chromosome (RM351-RM336).
