Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor(KDR) in endometrial carcinoma and their clinical significance, so as to address the role of them in the development of this malignant tumor. Methods 40 cases normal endometrium specimens% 20 cases endometrial adenomatous hyperplasia and 50 cases of endometrial carcinoma were studied in the expression of VEGF and KDR by immunohistochemical technique. Results The expression of VEGF and KDR in endometrial adenomatous hyperplasia endometrial carcinoma was significantly lower than that in endometrial carcinoma , but stronger than that in normal endometrium ; the high expression of VEGF and KDR were observed in poorly differetialed tumor cells, and that was significantly stonger than in highly differetialed tumor cells; Otherwise we found that VEGF and KDR expression had a significant correlation with stage , grade, histology, depth of invasion , lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. The expression of VEGF and KDR in adenocarcinoma was higher than that in the other carcinoma of the endometrium. Conclusion The expression trends of VEGF and KDR to increase in atypical hyperplasia and the significantly high expression in2endometrial carcinoma, indicating that VEGF and KDR may play an imporment role in the progression and development of endometrial carcinoma, VEGFand KDR may be not only a useful diagnostic director but also can predict patients prognosi s.
