Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value of four tumor markers (pro-GRP , NSE, CA125 and?-MG) in patients with SCLC. Methods: Serum lever of these tumor makers were measured in 27 SCLC patients and 108 NSCLC patients, and the change of the Pro-GRP and NSE were observed in SCLC patients during treatment.Result: Serum levers of pro-GRP, NSE> CA125 and ?2-MG were considered to be elevated when they exceeded 50pg/ml, lOng/ml, 35ng/ml and 2. 19ng/ml respectively. The positive rates of pro-GRP and NSE were significantly higher than those in the patients with NSCLC (92. 59% vs 11. 11% and 62. 96% vs 14. 81% respectively, P < 0. 001) , and the positive rates of pro-GRP and NSE were significantly higher than those of CA125 (44. 44%) and P 2-MG(48. 14%) (P< 0.001) . The positive rates of the patients who achieved CR or PR after initial chemotherapy were lower than before (P<0. 05) . The positive rates of the patients who achieved NC or PD after initial chemotherapy and these before initial chemotherapy have no significant difference. Serum levels and positive rates of CA125 in the patients with SCLC who were relapse during follow-up were significantly higher than other patients (P < 0. 01 ). The serum level of P 2-MG in patients with stage 111 and IV SCLC were significant higher than those in patients with stageI and II SCLC.Conclusion: Pro-GRP and NSE are good tumor markers of SCLC. The positive rates of pro-GRP and NSE were significantly higher than those in the patients with NSCLC, so they can be used to different SCLC and NSCLC. Moreover changes in the serum pro-GRP and NSE showed excellent correlation with the therapeutic response in SCLC patients. Serum level of CA125 inSCLC patients is a good prognostic indicator.
