Red sage root is the dried root of a perennial herb Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge (Labiatae). Its water-constituents can resist lioid peroxide and eliminate free radical. The author studied its water-soluble constituents. By column chromato graphy with silica-gel and sephadexLH-20 four water-soluble constituents were isolated from the EtoAc extraction of radix salvia miltiorrhiza, Salvianolic acid B, Rosmarinic acid, protocatechualdehyde. Consequently, standard substance were provided to define the quality of Radix Salvia miltirrihiza and its preparation.Complicated and diversified constituents of the herbal medicin e is the substance basis of action, only single constituent can not evaluate its quality properly, but fingerprint chromatography may reflect complex nature of its consti tuent more effectively, thereby evaluating quality of the herbal medicine well.In article fingerprint chromatography of Xinjikang injection and Radix Salia miltirrihiza were set up by HPLC of gradation technology. The result is showing that the setting up analysis method of fingerprint chromatography can be repeated simply and conveniently. The studies are useful for the quality of control of Radix Salvia miltirrihiza and its injection. Furthermore, it can give information for the further research on Xinjikang injection.
