Objetive:To investigate infection rate and resistance to common drugs of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) of patients with chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer in Guangxi province. Methods: H.pylori in gastric biopsy specimens from 316 patients with gastritis and peptic ulcer were diagnosed by endoscopy and pathology. From each patient, one antral biopsy was taken for rapid urease test, one for regular urease test and H.pylori culture, three for histology. Antimicrobial susceptibility of 50 strains H.pylori of random selection were tested by E-test.Results: H.pylori infection rate in patients with gastroenteric disease was 72.8%(230/316) in Guagxi province. The detection rates of H.pylori in patients with chronic gastritis(CG), peptic ulcer(PU) gastric ulcer(GU), duodenal ulcer(DU),compound ulcer(COU)were 66.1%(121/183),82.0%(109/133), 74.2%(23/31), 84.7%(72/85) and 82.4% (14/17) respectively. H.pylori was resistant to metronidazole, tetracycline and clarithromycin. The percentage of resistant strains were as follows: 86.0% to metronidazole, 6.0% to clarithromycin and 4.0% to tetracycline. There was no one strain of H.pylori resistant to amoxicilin. Resistance to metronidazole was significantly higher than that resistance to other drugs(P=0.0001).Conclusion: H.pylori directly leads to gastroenteric disease. In Guangxi province, susceptibility of H.pylori to amoxicillin, clarithromycin and tetracycline were high. They should be first-chosen drugs for H.pylori eradication therapy. However, resistance to metronidazole has been up to 86.0%, the combination of metronidazole should be avoided where possible.
