Objective: To investigate the relationship between the syndrome patterns in TCM differential diagnostics and the levels of plasmatic IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients, explore the relativity of the cytokine. Methods: 82 cases of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus were divided into three TCM syndrome pattern groups: Yin-Xu-Re-Sheng group, Qi-Yin-Liang-Xu group, Yin-Yang-Liang-Xu group. The levels of plasmatic IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α were determined with Radioimmunoassay compared with age, sex matched health control group, and the relativity of them was analyzed. Results: (1) The plasma levels of IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α in Type 2 DM patients with Yin-Yang-Liang-Xu group were significantly higher than those in normal control, Yin-Xu-Re-Sheng group and Qi-Yin-liang-Xu group(P<0.01 or P<0.05). (2) The rate of complication in Type 2 DM patients with Yin-Yang-Liang-Xu group was significantly higher than that in Yin-Xu-Re-Sheng group and Qi-Yin-liang-Xu group(P<0.01). (3) The plasma levels of IL-6 in Type 2 DM patients had a significantly positive correlation with them of IL-8, and had a positive correlation with them of TNF-α.Conclusions: (1) The plasma levels of II-6,11-8 and TNF-α in Type 2 DM patients with Yin-Yang-Liang-Xu group were significantly higher than those in normal control, Yin-Xu-Re-Sheng group and Qi-Yin- liang-Xu group. (2) The rate of complication in Type 2 DM patients withYin-Yang-Liang-Xu group was significantly higher than that in Ym-Xu-Re-Sheng group and Qi-Yin-liang-Xu group. (3) From the results, it can be concluded that the rise of the levels of plasmatic IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α might be the risks of the increase of complication in Type 2 DM patients, and be the criteria of the development from Qi-Yin-liang-Xu group to Yin-Yang -Liang-Xu group.
