Objective: Observe the effectiveness and safety of different doses of simvastatin on aged patients of hyperlipemia. Methods: Randomly divided 70 aged patients of hyperlipemia to two groups, one was given simvastatin 20mg/d (group A, n=40 cases), and the other was given simvastatin 40mg/d (group B, n=30 cases). Observed the level changes of serum total cholesterol (TCH), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglyceride (TG) at the 4th, 8th and 12th weak after simvastatin treatment. At the same time, the changes of serum glucose, myocardio-enzymes and liver and kidney functions of all the patients before and after simvastatin treatment were also examined. Results: At the 4th, 8th and 12th weak after simvastatin treatment, the serum TCH levels of patients in the 20mg/d group decreased 32.1%, 32.1% and 36.0% separately; the TG levels decreased 35.1%, 49.6% and 52.9%; the LDL-C levels decreased 39.3%, 37.3% and 35.2%; and the HDL-C levels increased 2.0%, 0.8% and 8.3%. While in the 40mg/d group, the serum TCH levels decreased 41.8%, 48.0% and 51.0%; the TGlevels decreased 18.4%, 32.3% and 38.4%; the LDL-C levels decreased 42.4%, 47.5% and 50.8%; and the HDL-C levels increased 1.0%, 2.0% and 13.0% separately. The levels of TCH, LDL-C and TG all decreased significantly at the 4th and 8th weak after simvastatin treatment (p<0.05), while the HDL-C levels had no obvious changes (p>0.05); but at the 12th weak the levels of TCH, LDL-C, TG and HDL-C all decreased significantly (p<0.05). There were no significant changes of the levels of serum glucose, myocardio-enzymes and liver and kidney functions of all the patients after simvastatin treatment (p>0.05),Conclusion: There are no significant effect differences between aged patients of hyperlipemia treated with simvastatin 20mg/d and 40mg/d (p>0.05). The treatment of simvastatin 20mg/d has certified effect and safety and can reduce the whole fee-for-services of patients.
